Winter SUMMARY ~redux~ UPDATED 11/26

This thread and the posts following it are a topical summary of the changes CCP has announced, mentioned, or deployed in the past few months coming up to the Winter Expansion.

I intend to keep updating this as new material comes up.
If you find something, think you've found something, or have a link for me to add showing a change or CCP information posted about it, please post!


The new expansion is most likely called EVE: Crucible
Its release date is
currently penned at "well before Christmas." announced to be November 29.

11/26 update - New items:
  1. Devblog about engine trails, in Visuals & graphics #8
  2. Added that bookmark folders are being moved server-side, plus video, in Client features #17
  3. Another devblog about the starbase fuel changeover, in Game mechanics #4
  4. Changes to drugs and Ewar drones will not make this expansion



Changes to ships:


  1. New ships: 3rd tier battlecruisers with oversized guns. Now on Singularity test server!


All ships can fit the largest size Battleship weapons, but only for their race; the Naga can fit both Hybrids and Torpedoesis currently only a Hybrid platform, and none of them have any missile hardpoints. They are fast, fragile, have low signature radius, cost about 50 million isk to make, and do a ton of DPS. Their intended role is against large, slow targets, such as stationary battleships and especially capital ships/supercapitals. All their stats are in testing and subject to change. The Talos, and only the Talos, can field a flight of 5 light drones.

This is an outdated fitting tool for the ships as they were last week. Try them out on Sisi!


  • Changes to Hybrid weapon ships' speed and agility (Link)

  • All ships that use Hybrid weapons will gain agility, and some of them will gain maximum velocity as well.


  • Balancing to capitals and super-capitals (Announcement, Reconsidering Fighter changes, Additional changes & details)

  • All super-capitals are having their HP reduced by 20 percent, except the shields on shield super-capitals. Titan doomsdays can only be fired at capital ships (ships requiring Capital Ships skill, plus freighter hulls). Remote assistance no longer works on Titans. Motherships can only launch fighters and fighter-bombers. Fighter-bombers have had their ability to hit subcapitals nerfed.

    Minmatar carrier bonuses were upped to 7.5 percent rep amount per level, the Naglfar and Nidhoggur gained capacitor buffer, the Naglfar gained fitting, and capital auto-cannons have 50 percent increased falloff.


  • Destroyer improvements (Details here) (on sisi)

  • Destroyers now have smaller signature radius, more HP, more capacitor, and no longer have a Rate of Fire penalty.


  • Logistics improvements (on sisi)

  • All logistics now warp at 3.75 AU/s, the same speed as HACs and Recon ships; the Oneiros is losing a mid-slot for a low-slot, getting its signature radius reduced from 70 to 60, and gaining 7.5 percent velocity and 200 base power grid.


  • Dramiel nerfs (on sisi)

  • The Dramiel is losing scan resolution, velocity, CPU and powergrid output, and gaining mass (slowing it further and reducing its agility). It will still be the fastest frigate, but not by quite as much.

    Changes to modules and ammunition:


    1. Changes to Hybrid weapons (Announcement, Revisions)

      • Capital Hybrid turrets are unaffected by these changes:
      • Blasters have had their tracking increased by 20 percent and their damage increased by 5 percent
      • Railguns have had their tracking increased by 5 percent and their damage increased by 10 percent

    Hybrid weapons will be easier to fit, use less capacitor, and reload in 5 seconds instead of 10.
    All hybrid ammo has been halved in size (and gun capacity has been halved to match).


  • New T2 modules (Details here) (on sisi)

  • New Siege and Triage modules, tractor beams, drone enhancements, gang links, probe launchers, Micro Auxiliary Power Cores, remote hull reps, bomb launchers, and warp disruption field generators.


  • Changes to T2 rig manufacturing, possibly including T1->T2 salvage conversion (Announcement, Discussion)


  • Balancing to T2 ammunition (Link, Revisions)

  • Short range ammo for long range guns (Javelin, Gleam, and Quake) have had their 25 percent tracking penalty changed to a 25 percent tracking bonus.
    Hail ammo's falloff penalty was briefly removed, then reinstated at half strength (penalty is now 25 percent to falloff).
    Rage, Javelin, Fury, and Precision missiles' penalties to speed and signature radius have been removed.




    Changes to game mechanics:


    1. Session change timer reduced from 30 seconds to 20 seconds (Devblog) (on sisi)

    2. This does not affect undocking and gate jumping invulnerability / cloaking timers. They probably plan to reduce these timers further in the future.


    3. Logging off no longer saves you (Link)

    4. If you log off with an aggression timer and someone comes and points you up or starts shooting you, you will not disappear until they are done with you. Yes, even a lone frigate can now kill an Avatar given enough ammo. No more logoffskis to save supercapitals in fleet fights.


    5. Player-deployed Customs Offices for P.I. (Link, Revisions)


    6. Changes to starbase logistics (Link, Revisions, 10th hour update)

    7. POS fueling has been greatly simplified (fuel pellets instead of 8 different fuels for onlining the tower), and pretty much all POS module anchoring timers have been reduced to a handful of seconds.


    8. Time dialation (Link, Zelda)

    9. PVP like you're in a music video.


    10. No more insurance payouts for GCC losses in high-sec (on sisi)


    11. Improvements to Jump command and Autopilot (on sisi)

    12. Jump on a remote gate now works the same way as Dock: the ship warps to 0, approaches if needed, and jumps automatically. Autopilot can be set to stations; it warps 15km off the station, then slow-boats to docking radius and docks up.


    13. Drones return on disconnect (Link, Papercuts) (on sisi)


    14. Drones can be reconnected to from a distance (Papercuts) (on sisi)

    15. This can be used by right clicking your ship, and can also be used via a shortcut which is un-bound by default. Five drones that you own and can control that are on grid with you will reconnect and fly back to you like nothing happened.


    16. Anomalies and exploration sites will now despawn normally when cloaked ships are in them, as cloaked ships no longer count (Papercuts)


    17. Station offices can now be un-rented remotely (Papercuts)


    18. Player ships now produce more salvage (Link)

    22. OH WOW To those of you that are still holding out on resubbing: Now is the time.
      This was also made by one of the guys from Team Papercuts.


    23. MOTD in Corporation chat, Alliance chat, and Fleet chat (on sisi)


    24. Prerequisites tab on Show Info windows now show time to train the requisite skills (on sisi)

    25. The time to train each individual skill level is also shown on mouse-hover.


    26. The camera no longer auto-pans when you hover over a target or object in space (Link)


    27. Session change timer is now displayed as a progress bar rather than just a spinning beachball-timer. (on sisi)


    28. Unchecking the "load station environment" option in graphics settings now makes the inside of station a static image (Papercuts) (on sisi)

    Changes and additions to 'content':


    1. Increased value of individual nullsec anomalies (Link, Devblog)


    2. New exploration sites, dropping never-before-looted deadspace modules (Link)


    3. The monument outside Jita IV - Moon 4 - Caldari Navy Assembly Plant station was badly damaged in the rioting (on sisi)


    4. The first gift to be given out will be a unique implant on November 29: The Genolution CA-1 (Link)

    5. It is part of a set of two implants that provide set bonuses to (at least) powergrid output and capacitor amount.




    Improvements to visuals and graphics:


    1. Ship textures and shaders are being updated in preparation for decals & logos on ships, etc. (Link, Additional info)

    2. This is being referred to as the V3 project, which stands for Version 3 of Eve's visuals. Some models are also being updated, notably on certain Caldari and Gallente ships (look at the Phobos).

      These changes, combined with the changes to the ambient light boxes and nebulae backgrounds, significantly alter much of the ambiance and contrast-levels, giving the new EVE a very new and distinct look for the first time since Trinity.

      This is a collection of most of the ships that have significantly changed in appearance so far, based on some exploration I just did on Sisi: V3 ship previews (this archive contains about 60 different ships that have been re-skinned so far)


    3. New Raven model (Link) (on sisi)

    4. There are also much-changed models for a lot of other ships, like the Phobos up above. More are still coming in. Check them out on the test server!


    5. New model for the Condor/Crow/Raptor (Link, Confirmed, Zelda)


    6. New nebulae backgrounds (Link) (on sisi)

    8. In addition, the stars in the star map are visible as actual stars in the sky, towards which you are thrown when you jump through a gate.

    12. I am looking forward to this, as it will be very helpful to nano pilots that go fast while zoomed out.
      However, if you are bitter and angry all the time and have lost touch with your inner child, or you are still using a GeForce 2, you can still turn engine trails off with a toggle option in the client settings menu under graphics.

    14. Some improvements to shadows (Link)


    15. New warp tunnel effects, warp tunnels go awesome and dark when warping while inside celestials (Link) (on sisi)

    16. This makes warping through celestials look almost infinitely better. Also, putting your camera/ship inside a planet/moon no longer makes that ugly white band appear.
      Tengen san brings us this shot of what it looks like inside a sun, and tells me that warping through the sun fills the screen with a blinding white field of light. CCP did not neglect this!

    Delayed and future changes:


    1. Assault Frigate bonuses changes (Announcement, Delayed)


    2. Shield leadership bonuses will update shield levels on application like Armor bonuses do (Link)


    3. Possibly equivalent implant sets for Slaves on shield ships, and deadspace Invulnerability Fields (Link)

    4. Something tells me that "shield slaves" are not too likely, or will only apply to Capital ships.
