Such a great movie.

All the actors give great performances, but Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove just sells it for me.

"Mein Fuhrer....! I can walk!!"

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

I just seriously wish Kubrick had left in the pie fight scene in the War Room.

.....love this pic of ad for it's Premiere that got just a little sidetracked on the day (Kubrick's writing).

Ha ha! "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" For some reason that line cracked me up for months after I first saw the movie.

For me, it's just Slim Pickens' accent and line delivery when he inventories the survival kit.

At the end of the scene, he originally said "You could have a good time in Dallas with that". But they had to dub in "Las Vegas" for Dallas, because of the recent tragedy that happened.

Slim had never even been outside of Texas in his life when Stanley cast him. He pretty much arrived at Heathrow looking as is in the film. They just didn't know what to make of him at all. But such perfect casting !

Hate to say this, but you are mistaken about Slim Pickens. He is originally from California, at least according to IMDB. Everything else is pretty spot on as far as I understand.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

I now have a bone to pick with one of Kubrick's biographers. Unfortunately I cannot remember which one as I read the book about 6 years ago.

But then his Wiki says this: "Stanley Kubrick cast Pickens after Peter Sellers, who played three other roles in the film, sprained his ankle and was unable to perform in the role due to having to work in the cramped cockpit set."

Everywhere else I've read that Sellers and Kubrick mutually decided to find someone else as Sellars could not master the accent.

Sometimes, it's hard to figure what's real and not when it comes to Kubrick.

IMDB indicates that Pickens took the role because Sellers broke his hip.

Seem to remember IMDB saying one time, that Sellers broke/injured his ankle and could not get in or out of the pilot seat.

Personally, I don't think Sellers could have played Major Kong any better then Pickens. Pickens is just so believable as a gun-hu cowboy pilot.

As I understand it, Kubrick told Pickens that the movie was going to be a serious drama as he wanted Pickens to play it straight.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.
