heh TP

anyhoo; outside of their falloff they dont do anything, yes? So Im assuming theyre more useful for torp boats than cruise missile ones? Cause if the rats are 30 or so km to me with the cruise missile boat I feel like I didnt kill them fast enough

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

I may be wrong but to my knowledge a TP will still apply 'some' of its effect, even outside of optimal range.

Much like guns, the percentage of 'Signature bloom' delivered by the TP module will lessen as you move into falloff. For example; a T2 Target Painter provides a 30% bloom to a target within 30Km (Optimal Range). A Target Painter's Falloff however is a further 60Km, essentially allowing you to operate over a 90Km range.

"At optimal + falloff, A module will be roughly half as effective" - So at around 90km from your target you'll be applying a 15% bloom.

"At optimal + 2xfalloff, a module's effectiveness drops to almost 0 (5%) - So at 150Km, you'll be applying a 1.5% bloom.

Obviously, the effectiveness works on a sliding scale (so being at say 45Km will be still fairly effective)

Long story short, TPs work well for missile boats trying to project their damage up to around the 50Km to 60Km mark. Webs are more 'effective' at short range due to the way the missile formula works but unless you're applying some serious ISK and boosting wizzardry, they wont reach out to 90Km before theyre 'effectively useless'

Target Painting effect is binary, it's either on or off.

A module has a 100% chance to hit from 0km to its optimal range. At optimal + falloff the chance to hit drops to 50% and at optimal + 2x falloff it is roughly 0%.

This means that at optimal + falloff there is a 50% chance that the module will fail and do nothing.
