Won't you get concorded if you hit a nearby asteroid though?

I think you only lose standing with the asteroid's faction and corporation.

Ya know, it kind of sucks that concord has to exist. They're essentially like, NPC guards who show up to protect people who don't feel like employing the methods necessary to ensure their own survivability. Why should an entire safe guard exist designed towards showing up to "save" people be in place when all it does is limit the potential of others wanting to have fun?

Hmmm what you seem to forget is that Concord shows up *AFTER* the event just like the police... they are not around to protect you they are around to catch/punish the culprits. Concord hasn't saved even one ship from blowing up unless the suicide gankers are mentally challenged and can't tie their shoes.

There is nothing *wrong* with Concord it is just your whole premise of Concord as protector of HS is flawed.

Smartbombs always had a little warning appear, "Are you sure you want to do this?" Made clicking on one for the first time seem like not such a smart thing to do. (I still love the irony.) Problem was they don't require a locked target to set off, and as they pulse, of course, they're a source of damage...which then brings Concord to the scene should you nick someone who gets too close.

Now, with the safety thing on the heads up display, a bit more mystery is added. If you didn't know about smartbombs before, this added feature makes it even more interesting, and I imagine a tad confusing. Other things like bombs, or cynos, just don't work in HS. A little note comes up and says, "This just won't work in HS, dummy." That too doesn't make you feel too smart.

Afterall, smartbombs are the only weapons where it says right on the label it's smart. Then, you have to ask yourself, "If they're so smart, why doesn't everybody just use them instead of all these guns and lasers and missiles and stuff?" Call in your drones while you have a smartbomb running. There's a quick answer to that. In fact, the more you think about it, the more "smartbomb" just doesn't make sense as a name.

Smartbombs are intended to be so precise, and so effective even a chimpanzee can use them with surgical precision, since they think for themselves. But, this bomb is a "blow everything up and let Concord sort it out" bomb. It should be called the "Dummy Bomb." A dumb bomb for dummies.

Where was I? Oh yeah. SO, that "safety". But for smartbombs I can't think of another use for it. Can you?

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Yes you can use them in highsec. That said, expect people to try to get close to you for a good laugh.

it's (was some time ago) common trick to some gankers to cloaked get close to smartbombing ship just to flag him

I saw a Venture in a belt a while back with a smartbomb in the utility slot. He was trying to blast a couple belt rats that were orbiting him. Being the helpful type, I locked the rats and sent one drone over there to help the poor lad. Twisted

Or you could just fit s rack of SBs and park near a major station for about 20 minutes so people have time to stealth scan you and then warp off somewhere and do nothing at all and see how many cloaky ninja types follow you.

Finding someone using smartbombs is the holy grail of mission invasion.

I can think of one. This should be of interest to the OP too. Big smile

Smartbombs will get you concordokkened if you hit anything neutral. As far as I know this also includes "neutral" objects like asteroids, but this may have changed meanwhile.
