I think the current mechanics are perfectly fine. The final click to disband has to be somewhere, but that isn't the sum total of the effort or motivation to do it in the first place.

This wasn't an accidental click. It was a deliberate act.

If Alliances get themselves into a state where this is even thought about, a lot has gone wrong with the internal relationships and people in positions of responsibility weren't doing their job and managing risk properly.

So yeah, a lot of players end up with assets out of reach and chaos ensues between the Corps and rival Alliances/Coalitions. In the end, that all creates content and the players with assets locked up have some work to do to access them again. Nothing wrong with any of that as far as I can see.
