WiS will come when and only when they have the ability to offer something involving meaningful and emergent gameplay. Dancing emotes are not emergent. Player Owned Establishments and Drug sales are a part of this (as is a further change to npc policing where it would be players scanning and flagging you for contraband cargo).

It will come when they have npc and even player owned casinos. They should honestly contract the somer blink/cogdev guys to handle this at least in terms of prototyping. But they could have a support contract too for and in-case of patch issues. I do look forward to WiS despite being a WH resident. Anything that adds immersion to the universe is good. The biggest challenge aside from the game play is optimizing the graphics so that hundreds of avatars can be in the same room without making your GPU smoke or without needing dual cards in SLI/Crossfire to run at 60 FPS.

At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.

Sleeper sites could potentially have some of the best avatar content. Exploring some derelict sleeper sight to hack into their computer database to gather information with the possibility of hostile sleeper defence drones and other players to shoot.

Also for performance I'd imagine the graphics would have to turned down quite a bit.

thats a good thought, kate

because of the graphics; theyre very good at the moment i think, so if they turn them down a bit, they would be still good^^

One problem I see is eve/lore RP wise. If a capsuleer dies out of his/her capsule, thats it for them, they are done for. CCP would have to come up with some fluff to change that. Afterall game mechanics should probably come first when it comes to doing something like this.

probably, but scientist could surely find a way to mix the capsuletechnics with dustsoldiertechnics

like clonesupporting spacesuits for capsuleers or something.

..for example :D

Actually I couldn't find anything in the lore requiring true-death. It can occur if there are no other clones. The lore absolutely says any of your current memories are gone. But there isn't anything that says you couldn't be restored from a previous scan.

(I checked for the Pod & Planet story contest: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=294654&find=unread )

Be careful in Pulsar systems, you might get Pod Flu.

Yeah, I can't remember if it was the last fanfest or Eve Vegas but there was a CCPer talking about having players jumping around to different clones suited to whatever task they wanted to do. Like for instance you could swap out to a dust soldier type clone from a capsuleer one. It's probably just all marketing fluff but it seems like they could be thinking of the future possibilities of this kind of stuff.

I'm gonna be on the hunt for that video now. Lol

Soft-cloning. Smile

Quite heavily used in the RP community for many years. Apparently it's supported in lore also, although don't ask me to quote sources as I have little interest in EVE lore (my RP has always been very general and loose) but it's what I've heard. It's a topic often argued about though, however people tend to agree that soft-cloning makes sense and many years of RP would go down the toilet without it.

I just read this blog by Jester:

http://jestertrek.blogspot.com.es/2014/03/derecognized.html

Something worth 20 millon USD in development and expected revenue has been called a loss in CCP's 2013 financial statement. That is, CCP is going to call dead some of their development work and have taken a shot in the face over it before announcing it.

Who's gonna be the victim?

Will it be WoD?
Will it be DUST?

Or... will it be WiS?

She strutted into my office wearing a dress that clung to her like Saran Wrap to a sloppily butchered pork knuckle, bone and sinew jutting and lurching asymmetrically beneath its folds, the tightness exaggerating the granularity of the suet and causing what little palatable meat there was to sweat, its transparency the thief of imagination.

I never saw a game like DUST doing well on a console. It has way too many MMO elements for it to be popular on a console, especially with COD and its clones.

Grrr.

WiS? People still cares about WiS? Come on. Get a clue, WiS has been succesfully implemented by other companies, in other MMOs.

It should be clear that EVE is about spaceships only and CCP is not good at doing other stuff. DUST is a wreck and WoD is vaporware.

Meanwhile CCP is co-developing Valkyrie, another spaceships only game.

You can't get blood out of a stone.

If ccp didn't **** their cash away on crap projects we could all have the eve we want right now.

I said exactly the same thing on the dust section of these boards and got some nasty comments from a dust bunny telling me that a pc client wouldn't bring any more players to dust, and that a pc client would invite hacking, yet everybody else takes the same position as you that a pc client would have met all of ccps goals and fostered genuine interaction between the dust and eve player base.

I am baffled by ccps position on this as a lack of pc client is a case of ccp shooting themselves in the foot.

I hope that they don't drop the captains quarter as I really enjoy using it, despite the fact that it's limited in functionality.
