Which Carrier is, in general, the best for PVP? AND WHY?

From my research, it seems like it is almost always between the Archon and the Thanatos.

As I understand it, each of the carriers are kinda of geared towards somewhat different things. It seems the Archon is a bit better at taking a beating (more low slots) while the Thanatos is what - more cap stable? Is it really that clear cut? I am wondering which one of the two you guys find, in general, to be the best carrier for PVP?

Thanks a lot in advance, any insight into the matter would be extremely helpful :)

The best PvP carrier is widely regarded as the Archon; this is mainly to do with it's bonus to armour resistances. It's also well balanced as a carrier in its layout, with adequate CPU, PG and fitting slots to achieve whatever role is required. It's also worth mentioning that it benefits from Slave Implants (being an armour tanker) and matches up with the majority of sub-capital and capital fleets deployed.

On the other hand, the Thanatos' advantage is that it can play the 'jack if all trades' card. It's an armour tanker like the Archon so it's certainly not out of place in a capital fleet and can still deliver armour reps; however it can repair shield damage just as effectively, making it useful for POS repairs. The fighters bonus isn't too bad either, although it's important to remember that a carrier's role is not to be a DPS engine (at max, you'll be putting out 1,250 DPS with fighters Vs the Archon's 1k).

IMHO, the REAL question to ask is do you want a beautiful Nyx in the long-term, or a gigantic, half-finished Bestower with a football pitch bolted to the side?

I would obviously prefer the Nyx however I don't think I'll ever get there tho...I am mostly a lone wolf in this game and just want to be able to have a carrier ready pilot for something I have planned in the future

I will mostly be needing to tank and well as rep others. Dishing out good damage would be nice as well. It seems that the archon is likely my best choice

If you want tank and rep, you will be triage, which means you will have no dps.

The nidhoggur is by far the best carrier for solo PVP as you can nanofit it and drone kite.

This. Only the Phoenix tops the Nid because it can fit RLMLs.

I'm sorry but I don't know what either 'nano fitting' or 'drone kiting' means, would anyone be able to fill me in on this?

So for solo pvp in a carrier, the archon is not the best? This is a bit of a down for me as I was under the assumption that it was the most well rounded and best at pvp. If I went Nid, I'd have to train for shield tanking instead of armour tanking, which I am not sure how I feel about

Thoughts?

As much fun as carrier kills are the truth is the Archon is the "best" in the current meta assuming you aren't repping a shield. It also has to do with the fact that it has range for cap transfer. The means you don't get screamed at in a gang as you will for bringing a Thanatos which is in many ways the weak link in the chain. Nid *can* be armor tanked if you have a triage archon sitting next to it. Like the Thanatos however its tank is weak so it will be killed first in a gang. You will not be pvping solo in your carrier. You may be the lone triage carrier in a small gang.

You can nano fit a carrier to avoid the DPS of a sieged dread but thats about it... a solo pvp carrier will have every single person in 6 jumps swarm to you to get on your inevitable kill mail. You could achieve greater suprise and the same dps using a blackops battleship with much more agilty and possible lower costs.

I fly carriers regularly and they are not solo wtf'pwn mobiles. I signed into eve years ago wanting the battlestar galactica, no joy unfortunately... They are very good at certain things, namely repairing other ships/structures and 250 carriers in a ball with sentries is a tough nut to crack with great regional power projection. Alone however a carrier has little defence, has an align time measured on a calendar and I can't state it enough _everyone_ _wants_ _you_ _dead_ (see the posters above pushing for easy kills, c- trolls).

There is only one reason for a lone wolf to have a carrier. Neither of those reasons involve needing to tank or repping others. A carrier is just a way to move your ships + 10,000m3 of stuff around. So pick the prettiest one, or the most convenient to train.

Let's be perfectly troll-free clear here: there is no, absolutely no, solo combat use for a carrier. Period. None. There never will be. There really never has been. If you expect one to be able to fill that role, you will lose carriers. Lots of them. It won't work. Period.

That said, Archons are generally regarded as the best fleet carrier. There are lots of reasons for this; poke around the threads already linked.

Solo carriers, as already implied, are for moving things. Maybe, just maybe, for repping a POS alone but even that is asking for trouble if you make a habit of it. They're great space trucks but without support that's more or less all they do.

solo? thanatos and run level 5s. If you MUUUST shoot stuff with it, and yes it will be npcs. solo pvp in a carrier is just waiting to die, and thankfully you wont wait long.

Otherwise archon. Dont question it, archon. Unless you want to rep pocos, poses or such. Then chimera and nid are good.

Yes there are other niches for the other carriers, but that is all they are. We have shield carriers, but that is for very specific use and whenever someone new asks.. what carrie.. that is about as far as they get before several people say: archon.

as it is, archon for carrier.

moros for dread.

If you plan to pvp in them.

do the other carriers/dreads have a use ? yes but again.. specific fleets. and yes i myself fly a rev. because Amarr Victor! stop bullying me! I will never leave my rev.. she is so beauti.. *gets dragged off for her daily medication*
