Keeping launcher open prevents "Socket was closed" errors?

I was playing 2 accounts from 1 comptuer last night, and got a lot of socket closed errors, but only on 1 occasion didnt one of my accounts stay online.

At one point I noticed the one that had socket closed error was always the opposite than was currently logged in on the launcher. And after noticing this it always held true.

Anyone else notice this pattern?
