Rat Site Protocol

I have heard lately about some players getting all pissed off (verbally) when a 2nd and sometimes 3rd player
has entered the rat site that the first person has already started killing rats. And the 2nd and maybe 3rd player
that comes in starts killing rats also.

Is there an unwritten rule or protocol that says the first player in the site owns that site and no one else
should get involved?

yeah, that unwritten rule is called being polite.
alternatively, this is eve, shoot the rats, and then shoot them.

The unwritten protocol is get out of highsec.
In null you can shoot people who dare to look at your rats or roids or planets or anything, even if they are blue to you.
Oh it's just wonderful i tell you.

The only unwritten rule is “you snooze you lose” with the corollary “if you complain about missing out because you were too slow, stop sucking so much.”

Tell them they can have your loot, then shoot them when they turn red and flashy :)

There was a time when people would respect this "unwritten" rule for the most part, but that was a long time ago.

I personally try to, but....

Welcome to the single-shard environment, where nothing is instanced.

I personally leave the site if someone else has started it.

Eve, however is a bit like the cheetah and the lion. The cheetah does the hard work chasing down prey and the lion comes along and takes it, unless the cheetah wants its head crushed in the jaws of the lion he trots away looking for a new meal.

Take what you can.
Give nothing back.
Claim overview bug.

Sometimes alliances and corps have their own rules. It's a good thing to break them sometimes. Resolving the issues of who did what and when and to whom in the Pith's Penal Complex is exactly the sort of content that people who play Eve Online: The Middle Management Sim love to sort out.

If you can kill it, you can keep it, at least until someone else relieves you of it.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Agreed I stopped combat exploration because right as I get to the end of a site, a t3 come in and grabs the spawn and leave, and stopped hacking sites because of the stupid minigame mixed with loot spew that doesn't mark looters as criminals

The unwritten rule is that the one which grabs the lewt in the end is the one who gets the profits.

If i do high sec exploration i will only leave the site of the person already in it is blue to my corp/alliance. If the person is neutral or even red its a race to the end, and that fairly often me who gets the loot. A lot of people also don't know the triggers so its quite easy to steal plexes.

There is no protocol in space. This is a competitive game. If someone isn't on your team then they are your competitors.

There's a few old explorers who still follow that way of thinking, otherwise known as 'Common Courtesy'.
