Is this game stagnating, or for lack of a better word, dying?

I blame the ban duration policy of CCP for the decreasing forum traffic. The duration depends on the warnings accumulated and not on the severity of the infraction. And they never ever expire. So if you get a few warnings over the years, you will just stop posting once you get a few months ban for a little trolling or loss of temper. It's like getting 10 years prison for jaywalking.

Unpaid volunteer moderation where the requisites are pretty much

1. Do you post?
2. Do you want to moderate?

Yeah duh forum traffic is dying down. The game itself is fine. Maybe CCP will revisit their weird amateur hour moderation policies when the forums finally die. Until then try not to overthink it.

As someone with a host of deleted posts and some surviving shitposts I've never had a warning in 4 years of crapping up the forums.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

It died about five years ago. We're playing on a stinking corpse.
In digital time, it'll be fully decayed in another thirty years.

The OP might be on to something.

I logged on the other day, and only 20 people were on. Space was totally empty in Hisec, and most of the stations had everything for sale at 100 ISK. Looks to me like it's dead already.

Oh wait ...

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

22. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.
