expansion of the eve paint project

Assuming the paint project is successful, which i truly hope it is. I had an idea to expand upon it further.

I would like to see player alliance paint scheme be made available for the winners of the alliance tournament. (1000 run copy for 1st, 500 run copy for 2nd. 250 run for 3rd.) Since it IS the alliance tournament isnt it a good idea to have an alliance level reward.

Now in order to standardize the process and avoid running into 1000 thoraxes painted like male anatomy, each qualifying alliance would be given a color wheel and told to chose two colors, a base coat and an accent coat, and then have their own alliance logo plastered on the hull instead of wherever the standard logo appears.

To address concerns of skinned ship proliferation messing up the market, i suggest this. In the existing market UI under the ships tab sort all ships into either skinned or unskinned. Furthermore then you sort all the skinned ship by faction, this way you avoid the issue of having to sort through 3 dozen rifters to figure out which one you want.

Additionally i think being able to plug in one of those BPCs to a CSAA to get an alliance painted supercap would be pretty awesome and would have the potential to generate pvp should spies be able to find which CSAA has the BPC in it

Additionally, I think the (potentially) easiest way to remove the market problem would be to get rid of the rather ineffective, and completely problematic idea of having it a blueprint.

Maybe it has to do with how ships and their skins are coded, but this is way I would have done skins. Combining in here because it fits with your thread title.

1. Put skins under ship modifications, not a blueprint.
2. Make skins "Small" "Medium" "Large" by having them just color variants of existing skin patterns.
3. Put two new "destroyed if removed" categories on ships. One for Paint, one for logo.

Now suddenly, all these skins are applied to ships as a modification. Expensive rigged ships don't need to be repackaged if players want it, it dramatically expands the range of ships it can be put on, getting better bang for the buck from the aurum point of view, doesn't clog market either.

This will also make it easy for fleet paint and logo. Have them like you say, a mass produced item, and they can fit to all ship sizes.

I believe this tech already exists for turrets. If I remember, the shader colorings for turrets modify based on the skin of the ship they are fit to. Is why lasers on my Nestor are white, and same ones on a T1 amarr hull are Gold, and fit to my minmatar for some reason would be brown. Could the same tech base not be applied to ships? Default with none fit, Apply skin, ship unloads, then reloads new skin?

If this happened, I would isk buy a couple of plex and probably reskin all my favorite ships. Can even keep some faction specific so Kador can only be applied to amarr, etc.

Assuming you got alliance level paint schemes how would you be able to differentiate and alliance painted moa from an alliance painted gila?

Ship name and icon is one way. A repaint of a ship shouldn't change it's hangar icon. Outside of ship hangar, how many people actually look at the ships visually? We all rely on overview and brackets.

i for one look at hulls that im not flying,

and in response to your first reply: CCP would still need to make a new skin entry for every paint scheme on every hull, so not really a good fix idea.
