Soccer hooligan who posed with his graffiti fined by magistrates

CHESTER, England, March 6 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old Welsh man who posted Facebook pictures of himself posing with his graffiti was admonished for his "considerable stupidity" by a British magistrate.

West Cheshire Magistrates Court heard Dean Roberts, a fan of the Wrexham FC soccer team, spray painted "WFC" in four locations at England's Swansway Chester Stadium, home of rival team Chester City FC, and posted pictures of himself posting with his handiwork on Facebook Sept. 6, the Mirror reported Thursday.

Roberts pleaded guilty to committing criminal damage.

"You now have a criminal record for an act of considerable stupidity," Magistrate Michael Martin told Roberts.

"I know very well the bad feeling between the two clubs because I go to watch Chester and I used to go and watch Wrexham," Martin said. "The rivalry never used to be too bad but now there needs to be a military operation for the game to take place. Incidents like this do not help."

"You have come deliberately to vandalize the stadium," he said. "My advice to you would be to grow up. You have even posted the evidence on Facebook."

Roberts was ordered to pay a $117 fine, $335 in compensation to Chester City FC, $142 in prosecution costs and a $33 victim surcharge.
