I would not consider it greedy to ask for compensation on something that CCP has said they would compensate just hours earlier in the same thread.

EvE Online EULA:

#11 - 3rd Paragraph.

While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.

Well, you could have read what CCP Eterne wrote. I'll quote it for your convenience.

If you lost a ship during the DDoS attack, please file a support ticket and it will be reimbursed.
Don't make promises that might not be kept...What?

It's standard procedure to reimburse things lost during DDoS's and other confirmed server problems.

Guys it's OK that people want to DDOS the server.

To the people DDOSing EVE, it's just a game to them. They are doing it for fun. They are just trying to have fun within the confines of possibility in this game of life we all play by choice.

Since it is an action taking place on the internet, according to you, IT'S NOT REAL! So stop letting yourself become emotionally impacted over interactions that ultimately are not real.

The internet and the interactions you have with people online ARE NOT REAL.

CCP, you need to start training up your Sensor Compensation skills. Maybe add a Sensor Backup Array? Use a bigger ship.... :)

Reverse DDoS perhaps? Use the eve client to target the IP's involved in the DDoS.

Hopefully some gifted programmer finds a way to negate massive ping requests from a command prompt from several sources and this will be a thing of the past before long.

I think you will find it is a lot more complex then that. A bunch of clients sending pings does not a successful DDOS make. To take out servers the size of TQ - we are talking about huge botnet attacks.

The new thing that I read behind these DDoS attacks is doing it with NTP requests.

It seems the DDoS has stopped and we are currently in our regularly scheduled downtime. We'll continue to monitor things as we bring the server back online.

I am getting a funny feeling the attack was done by someone who doesnt know about the daily downtimes, I mean if you go through all the trouble of doing such an attack, wouldnt you time it better to make it as efficient as possible?

More like by some group that DOES know about the daily timezones, and was running a demonstration of their capabilities to CCP.

Some botters think it is because CCP Peligro is too good at his job Lol

It is very real. If you attack a SCADA system via the Internet, you may shut down the power of a house, adjust thermometer for a factory, and even damage nuclear centrifuges as seen in the Stuxnet attack. When you DDoS a server, the impact is reflected on real life hardware, and you are not only affecting that hardware, but anyone using that hardware in real life.

If all of your bank accounts got hacked and emptied, all your personal details stolen (including credit cards, email accounts, social security number, private photos, etc.) and misused, would you still not "become emotionally impacted" because it happened over the Internet? Because these things happen every day to some extent. Depending on the type of data of course.

Would you not be "emotionally impacted" if someone spied on you via webcam in e.g. a laptop? (Or as an external device)

Or if you were suddenly locked out from all services you use online because someone had hijacked them?

People (blackhat hackers) on the Internet, even conduct TDoS via relays, which essentially performs a denial of service attack against a telephone system at a corporation that relies on telephone systems.

One person working for a big company, liking something online on e.g. Facebook or sending/sharing a bad status, can have an impact on shares, and in some cases people have been fired for bad behaviour on the Internet.

If you download movies illegally and you get caught, you will most likely get a huge fine in real life, whether you believe what you do on the Internet is real or not. You may even get prison time, but don't worry, anything you do on the Internet is not real according to you.

Your actions on the Internet, are reflected in real life. The people you interact with, will have an emotional impact in real life. (Which can be both good or bad.)

If this was a demonstration, it was a noob (script kiddie) demonstration with a serious low throughput.

At least I now understand why I was getting disconnected all the time while playing the last few days. Hope that's the end of this current incident.

Happening again this morning, started to really feel the effects around 10.35 Eve time, two accounts constantly being disconnected and massive lag spikes.
Hope you get it sorted asap, keep the faith.

This has been way too frequent over the last 2 weeks. It's terrible today, logged in before DT without issue. Now the socket closes every time after you select the char and right as the game is about to load. So as of now I cannot play at all.

I think it is now reasonable to ask for some kind of compensation.

..Was on the Gallente Epic Arc at the "Showtime" stage, having just killed the named pirate that drops the item needed to complete both the mission and the Epic Arc I was being d/c'd again and again, was unable to get back to the location pre downtime, now ..post downtime all traces of the mission have vanished.

Just reset my mission Please, no need to compensate me any further than this.

Thank-You.

Why is there no announcement from CCP admitting there are issues now as it seems lots of people are having problems !!
