Just logged into Steam to find that there forums have been hacked and data has been compromised.

Since many people here have a steam account and I haven't see any post put up regarding this just thought it would prudent to warn people.

Suggest those who use Steam just google steam hacked :)

"We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating,"

We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely."

The database exposed during the attack "contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information,"

"We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password."

This was a statement released by Valve Corporation head Gabe Newell.

The Steam Forums are currently offline as Valve continues its investigation and recovers from the attack. When the forums return, all users will be required to change their passwords. Users who used the same password on the Steam Forums as they did on other sites are advised to change those passwords as well.

My Bad :)

Anyway considering that Eve is sold via Steam thought it would be better to post here as I suspect more people visit this section of the forum then any other.

Think its more this

"The database exposed during the attack "contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information,"

that is the worrying part

I guess for people using debit cards instead of credit cards, that could be kind of worrying, and a billing address that is their own address, ouch, again, learning is fun.
Way back in like... the 80s maybe, long time ago anyway, my old man said to me, "Whatever you type into a computer can appear anywhere else in the world and you will most likely never know about it, so before you type anything into a computer, you make sure you're comfortable with everybody in the whole world reading it."

I think more people needed a father like mine, and nobody would have ever heard of Zuckerberg.

You do realize banks verify billing address when making purchases, and verify your address when getting a CC right? Or are you not old enough to have a credit card yet?

Ooops. I forgot the "If I don't know how, it must therefore be abso ******* lutely impossible" standard Internet Know-It-All stance.

Sorry, you're right. It's im ******* possible.
Jeeeesus. What do you do when you see somebody on TV doing something you haven't the first clue how? Immediately dismiss it as camera tricks?
What if all they are doing is talking Japanese? Dismiss the whole language as a crude joke played on the world?

This is why I make passwords that are unique to every account that I have. If one is compromised, the others are safe.

That is so very interesting, and a good idea.
You should post all of your passwords here so we all can get a better indication of how we can protect our online accounts more.

Well I don't see why gobshites, morons, know it alls and High Functioning Autistics (or whatever this weeks favourite internet disease is) should be allowed on the same internet as everybody else. It's not like they've got anything useful to contribute to the world other than other than perhaps the kind of meal that would keep a pride of lions alive for a few weeks. They're just meat.
