Hi guys! I've recently taken an interest in database design and implementation (dipped my toes into a bit of MS Access and that's it) and I was wondering if you fine folk could help me with a project I'm thinking about.

Combing my new found interest with databases and my enjoyment of eve, essentially what I want to do is take those raw data dumps that I can export from my client then parse, store and query them.

I've found a lot of info out there about importing data from sites like eve-central et. al. and they have been pretty interesting reading. Having said that, I want to try my hand at doing all the legwork myself, taking the data from go to woah.

How do I get started on a project like this? What programs should I look at using? Am I trying to bite off more than I can chew?

My level of knowledge can be assessed as practically nil, so even if you know some basic guides that would get me on my way, I'd be hugely grateful!

1) Grab the CCP database dump from here: http://community.eveonline.com/community/fansites/toolkit/
2) Grab the MS SQLExpress database and Management Studio from microsoft.com
3) Hop over to this this EVE specific tutorial and import the DB dump into SQL

That hopefully gets you started.
