Idle account log out timer

With all the stand still players, afker's, and bandwidth waste that it is on the servers. Why not implement a 1 hour log out timer; that if you don't move in space, perform any ui function, or any game interaction to the client at all that it drops your connection.

Think about it though, this would give those resources back to ccp's servers. and in some cases save the people who have to go afk for RL matters.

1. I doubt you'd gain a lot of server performance by removing a couple of inactive players here and there. Hell, just checking if an active pilot is inactive or not could be more expensive than handling a pilot doing nothing in space/station.

2. It would reduce the amount of people logged in and "playing", which is not a good marketing move.

3. In case you were trying to target afk cloakers and afk miners, it wouldn't even work since module cycles would count as activity.

As for number 3. Your right, people who make 10-15 alt accounts to just sit in systems that use bots to alert them to when carriers/expensive ships are undocked so they can be hottdropped, yeah I don't see how that affects player base anymore then logging afk players out.

I know I don't play a game based on weather it says 20k or 60k online.

I have no problem with people going through the trouble of paying and running 10-15 alt accounts to get extra intel on targets.

Oh, me neither. I was merely stating that I don't see CCP taking measures that would effectively reduce the displayed amount of players online.

Remove active played charakters to safe server performance, empty server best server.

EVE is not on common ground with other MMO's, as a passive play style is often called for which involves zero UI interaction.

While possibly good intentioned, this idea would break more than one play style.

how did the afk player alert his friends for a hot drop...he was afk.
