Is there a maximum amount of ISK that a character can have?

What happens if you go over the limit?

As Kane already said there is no limit to how much ISK you can have, just like you cant make your wallet balance go into the negatives.

There is one exception to this and that is when you do something naughty and CCP removes illegally obtained ISK from your wallet, in which case it can (and often will) draw you into the negatives, which can make certain things difficult.

Depends on the datatype CCP uses to store wallets.
Eve is written heavily in python, which has a maximum integer value of 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. Though if you count isk cents that might be 92,233,720,368,547,758.07.

If any player were to approach the maximum isk limit i'm sure CCP would extend that value, so there's no need to worry.

There's is a limit but I doubt anyone will hit it like a previous poster it is very high. Also you can end up with a negative balance but only ccp an cause that and it severally limits your play.

If you get caught smuggling contraband, the monetary penalty can make your wallet go negative, iirc. Unless that was changed.
That should be an extremely rare case, however, and almost requires having an empty wallet in the first place.

RMT-involved players can go easily to negative once CCP takes away their iskies and assets. There is a rule in character bazaar for positive wallet purely for this.
