Who was talking about dishonoring the ransom? A ransom would have to be accepted first.

All this thread does is bring to the foreground the fact that different people always have and always will have different ideas about what role lowsec should be. There is no consensus among players about what it should be, because there is no consensus about what it is used for.

The idea that lowsec is supposed to be a stepping stone to 0.0 is definately common. Has CCP actually ever stated this specifically? I dont recall ever seeing it, but that doesnt mean anything.

Is lowsec supposed to be a place for casual players to pvp solo/ in small gangs? Many people certainly do use it for that. Should larger groups be penalized in some way so as to ensure the viability of solo/small gang PVP?

Is lowsec supposed to be for FW? No doubt that the population of lowsec has increased since FW, and many people really like FW (even if it is "broken"). Should lowsec mechanics facilitate FW even if it is to the detriment of other groups?

Nothing in this thread hasn't been brought up 1M times in the past 6-7 years. Players all have different visions and those visions have been posted over and over.....and over again.


Here is the rub: Even if players could agree on a single coherent vision, it is not in the players power to change anything.

This vision is for CCP to decide upon and move forward with.

If the role of lowsec is already what CCP wants they should come out and say it. It won't stop the whine threads, but at least we could get the #occupyJita tears.

I like watching Pirates of the Caribbean too.

What would Cpt. Jack do if the governors stopped paying ransoms? What would Jack to if all the governors daughters killed themselves before "other" payment could be extracted? What would Jack do if if all the military ships decided on "death before dishonor"? Wouldnt Jack be smarter just to sink everything and salvage what little he could that was of value?

Read up on your pirate history...often pirates would treat their captives well and after taking what they wanted, would send their prey on their merry way. Sometimes the sailors of ships would even join the pirates because it was a better living than the Royal Navy or various entities. Herzog hit the nail on the head.

lowsec's just a little speedbump on the way to highsec or nullsec that has a few poorly organized bandits here and there. working as intended.

long long time ago i made a proposal for lowsec that got shot down, however fast foward a few yrs and lowsec is even worse still.

As some else has mentioned there is a hard wall between 0.5 and 0.4, 0.5 = uber protection (dont harp on about suicides) 0.4 zilch protection.

tbh it absolutly riduclous.

what lowsec needs is a "chance" of protection

lets start 0.5 - concord repsone but slower than 0.6/7/8 ect. now im not suggesting a chance that concord could spawn but maybe the chance a couple of police rats, and of couse slower to show up than 0.5 ect

so in 0.4 there would a 40% chance that a couple of cops might show up ( not imune or overpowered, completly kill able but gives the intended victim maybe a chance )

0.3 its 30% chance and again slower to show up again

0.2 its 20% 0.1 its 10%
and of course 0.0 literally means in this context zero chance.

its called an illusion, u make ppl think its a little more safer to go there they might just say "what the heck"

so someone decides to go to lowsec thinking he has some chance of protection and proceeds to mine in a belt or rats or whatever, you warp in and aggro and a couple of rats show up and start plinking ure uber tank Shocked

if it was in 0.1 there would be a 90% chance they wouldnt come at all and if they did thire repsone time would be in the minutes.

but as i said its an idea to make ppl think they have a chance.

Nothing attracts new people to low sec.

Gold Rush would be good incentive. Guristas rush, or what ever, low sec can have something of value.

You can not go into null more than 1-10 jumps without invitation or a massive fleet. Can not go as in Gates are sealed, pipes are patrolled, you be camped and locked out. Even if you dock in NPC station you are not welcome and you get locked and camped.

You can not get anything extra in low sec. Pirates already kill all random trespassers, but travelers are barely PvP worthy. You need to bring at least 50-150 mill to low sec to PvP in it. But you hardly get any reward for it.

People do not need anything from low sec and solo trip will always end bad. You can not go into low alone. For a gang it is nothing extra, but a way to waste ISKs. Very few gangs can sport expensive setups and skill and be successful at finding targets. Too large a force and pirates start to run in panic.

Very few pirates give GF, most of them look for gank, which is not going to happen. And if they gank an unsuspecting victim, he will never come back to low.

This is how the Idea of Low Sec demotes itself. Risky, Dangerous, no market, no trade, no industry... occasional cloaky travelers.

Concord is invincible, but faction police - navy could be protective on gates or near stations. If you want growth in number, you need relative safety. Uhhm, hired faction police for trade hubs. Makes sense, because low is empire space with lack of security, huge stations are owned and need to operate.

No extra safety in belts, but stations should have serious protection. It is stupid how all the stations operate without anybody's presence and care not for aggression/violent actions. Half the carebears get ganked on gate or undock, which seriously limits their willingness to go into low sec.

What should I confuse this sci-fi game, derived from numerous sci-fi movies and books, with? Could you be the one confused?

I remember in 0.0 once a rookie ship parked at a gate. We popped it. The capsule sat there. Scout bot?

"Someone" is going to see and it only takes one. But it appears you want to play a semantics game. "you said nobody, but now there is somebody, therefore I am right and you are wrong" - I have had arguments like that with girlfriends that were easy to dump.

You know exactly what I mean, so don't pretend you are confused.
