I follow MD very closely and after some time it's easy to notice the few outstanding people. Actually I might join the group of investors at some time (with proper care).

The main problem is trust. All information that is presented when someone is offering a bond is provided to build up enough trust so that investors part with their money. But we all know that promises are easily broken and that's where collateral comes in. But collateral is only as good as the person holding it. And that brings us back to trust.

At the moment there are exactly 4 people who are posting in MD regularly who I would trust to hold a collateral so that I would invest a larger ammount. I think it's not hard to guess the correct names (actually I thought there were five, but then I wrote down the names - then again, maybe I forgot someone P). In addition to that there's another (who's not posting in MD very often) who I would trust, one who I might trust if I think about it hard enough and one who I wish I could trust, because I like the way (s)he posts. It helps when the person in question would risk losing more by breaking trust than (s)he might gain by not honoring the agreement(s). And frankly, most people don't qualify for that (I wish I would, but I'm simply too low key for that atm).

That's the second best collateral in the game. Some players spend years building that trust and is more valuable to them than any amount of isk in the game.

Most of my loans toward other players now is to long standing friends given without interest because 1. The isk is not the issue because if they were to actually steal, the loss of a friend would sting more than the loss of the isk and 2. They do the same for me without hesitation.
