When is a carebear no longer a carebear?

Not sure if this is the best section for this but here goes:

Honest question, when is a carebear no longer a carebear?

Is carebearing character specific or the person? I.E. a guy with a pure indy toon who also has a separate pure pvp toon, is he still a carebear? Or does he have one character that's a carebear and one that is

Discuss.

I would say "carebear" could be applied to persons or corps who try to actively AVOID pvp. Most of us do PVE at times (to make ISK), but the game for a non-carebear is usually focused around pvp of some form.

Just my two cents

In fact, a much better description.

Are you speaking of caring about the money he would lose in ships? Cause that actually does make a lot of sense.

So if you are willing to lose ships and don't care when you do, you are not a carebear?

What about if you don't care about losing ships to gankers but all you do is mine? Still not a carebear?

It's not about any specific act, it's about their attitude.

One of ours, ten of theirs.

To OP: Some say once the fear of pulling a trigger on another player is completely gone, you are no longer a carebear. Others might say once the shivers and shakes of combat are also gone, but they are fewer in number. Put a few non-consensual solo kills on your killboard, and call yourself a pvp'er with pride; but remember, its not about space-bushido and 1v1's at the sun in identical ships....just kill something.

Hmm. In my first month in Eve I tried to suicide gank a guy who was salvaging the wreck of my alt he had just ganked. I've suicided a few people, and been concorded before my target explodes, numerous times. I've flown in null blobs and in low sec roams. I've wardec'd high sec POS owners and burned their sand castles to the ground. I've also spent a couple weeks exploding as fast as I can in RvB.

I still get combat jitters though with the anticipation leading up to a fight. Maybe those will go away one day.

Thats one of the reasons I play this game. No other game can invoke the rattles during an engagement. Crazy.

That is very true. The only other game that can really get me on edge like that is SC2, but it doesn't last long and it's not reliable. Mostly I find in SC2 I either steamroll my opponent or get steamrolled. PVP in Eve I've found to be a little more reliably exciting. Even when my algos gets shredded by Tengu missiles in about 15 seconds. Still a huge rush. Some fights I actually have to take a breather after.

I don't get shakes or shivers when engaged or outnumbered. And I am still a Carebear.

Tis a shame. I hope I dont lose the rush.

And I have to say the idea of Kane shooting red crosses for ISK makes me sick.

You're no longer a care bear when you have negative sec status.

A person that does'nt use his intelligence is no better than an animal that does'nt have any and thus are steaks on the table by choice and consent.

I wouldn't say that.

I see lots of lowbears masquerading as FW pilots......and usually are -5 or worse.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

So since I started this thread I got my first solo PVP kill. Yes his fit was not very good, and yes it was the worst possible setup to counter my tengu, and yes his ship was dual tanked with no web, but still. I had the combat jitters up until I had him disrupted and could see that his artillery was no threat to me. From there on in I was actually surprisingly calm.

Thanks pvp community!

Congrats!

I remember my first solo kill... I was in a T1 fit armageddon and a malediction burned directly at me from long range and I killed it with 1 or 2 volleys. He pretty much gave me the kill but I still felt exuberant... So much so I went and paid $10 to redo my character portrait and put on this spiffy black hood to celebrate (well not THIS specific hood, as that was years before the current portrait system).

I spent my first year in this game hiding in out-of-the way hisec systems mining with 3 accounts scared of everything (mainly due to ending up under the wing of the wrong people I guess). I ended up quitting and coming back a couple times and was about to hang it up for good and decided to see what 0.0 was all about. I got in a cheap punisher, picked a random spot on the map, and went out to see what was up. Found a station and hung around for a couple minutes then promptly died to a wolf who caught me at a gate when I decided I should leave. I had a good conversation with the guy who killed me and ended up joining a 0.0 corp and spend a good amount of time blowing things up and getting blown up.

With all that said, in the back of my mind I consider myself a little bit of a carebear. I think it is something that someone never really overcomes. Last night I even joined some CODE guys in a few licence enforcement actions on my alt and, while the activity was quite fun and exciting, I still felt just a little bad for those orca guys (they really should have had their licences in order...Straight)
