You can say that, but everyone here started out as a newbie. We didn't just spawn into the game with 30+ million skillpoints and hundreds of millions of isk.

If I had to do it, you had better give me a damned good reason why you think you shouldn't have to.
Not sure why you're quoting me; I didn't make any such suggestion.

There is no inability, apparent or otherwise. The game has a hefty learning curve, but it's about attitude as much as it is about game mechanics. Despite this, the game continues to grow, as it has for a long, long time.
If the game continues to grow, then it seems that the OP's claim is wrong. I was responding to the claim in the OP, not to the scenario you just now suggested.

I was using the royal "you". :P

As in, you or anyone.

The new player experience is primarily hampered not by a lack of opportunity, but by other people. And not in the way that might be imagined, either.

It's by highsec corps. Between them, the Help Channel, and NPC corp chat, the game is a poisonous environment that only serves to try and hamper the development of budding players.

It's part of why I believe it's so important to have highsec wardecs be powerful and prominent. It's a very necessary service to stamp out these toxic highsec corps that tell newbies "they can't" do X, Y, or Z. Whether that "they can't" is about PvP, skillpoints, isk, whatever.

If you are struggling, I would definitely recommend giving any of those 3 a try, or find another player Corp that will help. The only thing required is a good attitude and respect for others. Some Corps provide ships and skill books for free, so you gain off the efforts of the more experienced players who grind the ISK.

Thanks for the tips and concern. Truth is, I'm not struggling, but am doing great. Big smile Divine Entervention, however, has voiced some things that could be perceived as expressions of struggling. Perhaps he'll take advantage of your and Kimmi's suggestions, which are great suggestions.

That's a good broad goal but for now look at something more specific.

Kaarous and Scipio are very accomplished PvP enthusiasts (Kaarous is a psychopath, but a lovable psychopath). Their words here are very valuable.

Don't ever be okay with being told, "You can't do that". If anyone ever tells you, "You can't do that." You tell them to go **** themselves.

My experience is more with PvE in HighSec. I am what PvP enthusiasts lovingly call a "CareBear". The big difference between this CareBear and "those" carebears is I don't want the game to change to benefit my play unless it benefits everyone's play. So Kaarous and Scipio, at least somewhat, tolerate me.

Except for Mag's - he stole my tea cozys (cosys? that just looks weird). What a ****!

Cozies, I believe. Spellcheck seems to agree.

Tea Cosies is the plural of tea cosy. The United have to keep their beverages warm somehow, or they needed some novelty beanie hats.

edit ~ Cosies is the English spelling, Americanese speakers use a Z for some bizarre reason P

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Theft of embroidery aside, I wanted to discuss this.

That pretty much makes you not a carebear, Kimmi. Taking steps in your own defense and not abdicating it to CONCORD is the other major step, besides the attitude.

A PvE player doesn't have to be a carebear.

Absolutely, but I have a feeling that once the other thread is cleaned, this one will be next and then we'll be back on track.

I'd be happy to discuss it with you. I'm relatively certain that DE hid my posts several pages ago as he no longer responds to me with his snide and vitriolic comments.

I have no doubt others would like to discuss the topic at hand as well. Unfortunately, this thread has been derailed by a child tearing away feverishly at a napkin.

Yes, I am. My answer would be yes. There are plenty of things that can be improved in the new player experience, I think. I don't think making high-sec less dangerous is necessarily beneficial, however. Educating people as to their options, that is what is important.

Most of the dangers in high sec are actually extremely easy to avoid, if you keep your wits about you & have some knowledge of the mechanics.

I agree with the Vic here. I think this point above is very relevant. The number one thing that discourages new players is their ignorance of mechanics.

Aggression mechanics.
Loot and salvage mechanics.
War Dec mechanics.
Safety mechanics.

The NPE is insufficient for explaining these complex at first intricacies. Sure they can get some info in Rookie Chat or the School chat but one can question the validity of the responses as well as the new players understanding of what is being told to them.

The hardest questions are the ones you don't know that you're supposed to ask.

Game mechanic idea:
If you war-dec someone, you can't dock in highsec when they target you.
Would this work?

That would apply to both parties involved in a war.

They who initiate the wardec may not dock while targeted.
They who are the recipient of said wardec can not dock while targeted.

I would also submit that the vernacular of aggressor and defender be changed. What, specifically, is the recipient of the war dec in possession of that requires defending?

ED: Does two t's in targetted look weird to anyone else? Yep, it is weird. Edited for stupid t's

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

Oh believe me, I did too. I came into the game with the intent of being a " (player) pirate hunter", I couldn't understand how anyone would want to be a pirate or other bad guy in a video game.

7 years later I'm neither player pirate hunter or player pirate (NPC pirates are a whole 'nother matter, I slaughter them buy the boatload, screw those guys).

Mainly because while I don't personally find pirate play interesting, I've learned that the "pirates" (gankers, scammers, hell, just say Goons) are actually the well adjusted adult EVE players who can keep a video game in context while having fun.
Meanwhile, the "weak" types are just too busy being delusional "Michael Jackson in Neverland" child-like people stuck in their own imaginations who take all of this game stuff way too seriously while they refuse to do anything in their own defense with all the free freaking Guns the game gives them.

Guns are free? Blink

I'm the same. Long after I started they had that personality test thing and I was a Bounty Hunter. Unfortunately, I don't see enough of a profit for effort in hunting down player bounties, so I shoot NPC bounties.

Stealth "do something about bounties" post.
