Summer 2014: "foundation technology updates"

According to this link, there are some "foundation technology updates" coming in the summer which is forcing everyone to update to OS 10.7. I'm trying to figure out what those "foundation" updates are. The only thing I can think of is that OS 10.7 is the first version to include the App Store.
If this is the case, then Eve may end up on the App Store, and because of that, I'm guessing that it may not be using wine underneath to port the Windows DLL's. So are the "foundation" updates an actual native re-write of the Mac client? Does anyone know any more information?

it will still be using Cider which is maintained in collaboration with our partners at Transgaming. They have had so many fixes for various things in their latest Cider version for quite some time now, but we could not just perform an upgrade as this would mean not supporting below 10.7. We needed to give fair warning to people to upgrade their version of OSX,
With Mavericks being free, I hope people take the opportunity to upgrade for better Mac support.

Understood. So are there any plans to create a native Eve app on OS X? Or will it always be going through Transgaming?

It would be nice to know what we will be getting. Better performance? Fewer bugs? More bugs? Or is it just that CCP wants to stop using an older version of Cider no longer supported and move to a modern one, but with no appreciable changes to us users?

Presumably it will involve better support. I can't find any information about DX11 support, so I doubt we'll be getting that; on the other hand, I'm willing to bet that a desire to move the game beyond DX9 is applying at least some pressure to this decision.

As for "no appreciable changes," I'd be happy with fewer memory leaks, more stability (I would like to stop crashing on gate jumps; that would be nice), and perhaps even a better framerate, or just the ability to use higher quality graphics settings.

There really should be a native client. Sad story.

It'd be like if they kept releasing another platforms client in a VM Wrapper. ... Wait ... I think I see the problem. Pirate

Actually, jokes aside, I rather wish the dev would poke a head in here, instead of off in Reddit. You'd think they would at least TRY to encourage people to use their own forums (or reward those who do, take your pick).

Either way, I'm glad they are updating their WINE, but 2+ months seems an awfully long time to wait for a better client (especially when so many people are experiencing issues) is ... well ... lets just say "an excuse for harvesting their users' tears".

(Off to try installing WINE on my MacBook Pro to see how it works, supposedly its what we have to look forward to)
