I may be moving out to the drone regions and despite having 36 mil SP this toon has very little SP in actual combat ships and i want to turn this around.

eveboard link

I do have very good electronics, engineering, and mechanical skills, but no shield or missile skills, just under 1 mil in gunnery, and 500k in drones. I am training Amarr BS and AWG atm but could easily have another racial BS training in a few days and not really loose anything. All my other toons are caldari based and I really want to try something different so no missile boats please. So what would be a good BS to train for against drones and can I get some fits I should train for.

most of the bots seem to be ravens though, and thats 98% of what you meet in drone regions

As far as ships you could fly right now a Harbinger or Navy Omen come to mind. Lasers are ideal weapons against Rogue Drones. With either of these two ships you may not be very fast in killing as your tanking is somewhat flimsy or the tanking mods will need more/all your low slots.

You may then want to look at Zealot, Absolution, Legion, Geddon as a goal. The first three have tech II resists that do well against the damage profile of Rogue Drones. A decent tank could be fit around a thermal hardener, damage control, plus repper (maybe an eanm as well). The rest of lows can be damage plus tracking mods. The geddon doesn't have tech II resists but it has BS sized armor to allow the reps to hold you.

The Zealot suffers from not having drones to kill scram frigs. A couple webs or web and painter plus flight alterations would be necessary to allow you to kill a scrambling frig. The Abso has drones so it's good. You would want to have at least 25m3 dronage on the Legion to avoid the same problems of the Zealot.

Then there is the Geddon. I used to use a geddon when I lived there for belt ratting (before anoms and sov upgrades). The geddon is not so nimble so it helps to pay attention to your intel channels. However, the geddon has a large drone bay, sufficient to carry some ecm drones in case you derp and need something to hope to shake a tackler before the pack lands on you.

I did not have the skill for it at the time, but I think the absolution would be ideal. The best tech II resist profile, lots of em damage potential, and being a BC nimble enough to align in time to gtfo reliably when paying attention. The legion probably second best, then geddon, then Zealot (hate having no drones).

Lastly, I would use beams on all these ships. Dual heavy beams on the geddon, heavy beams on the others. Pulse lasers only put out decent ranged damage with tech II and scorch, and not sure if you want to commit the lengthy training for those. You should have an alt with a noctis on a second window or screen to gather the drone poo.

edit- you need to train medium laser asap to use a navy omen or harbinger. And, put some agility mods/rigs on your alt's noctis because it aligns worse than a BS otherwise. And buy and train advanced weapons upgrades, I think you already have the prereqs and it will make fitting your ships so much easier. And, you need more drone skills badly.

For the love of all that's holy, don't put a drone mod on your legion just to deal with frigates! Train up to medium pulse IIs and use those. The tracking (even without tracking mods) is sufficient to take out most any NPC frigate (unless they web you.) Even with 4x NPC tracking disruption on me, I can still just swap to scorch and burn straight toward the frigates and take them out anyway.

The drone subsystem is going to gimp your DPS so horribly that you might as well not even bother.

The absolution seems like the best risk/reward ship to train for. But untill I can get those prerequisites trained up the armageddon seems like the way to go.

The geddon will serve you well. You will have to train medium and then large laser turrets. One LAR with maybe two explo, one kinetic, and one thermal hardener (or maybe 2 eanm II in place of the thermal and kinetic hardeners), and DC II then two heat sink to start with in the lows. In the mids a mwd or ab (although this was before there was a noctis), tracking computer with range script to start and if they get close use the tracking script, and cap mod (large cap battery will fit because the guns take so little pg). When you feel more comfortable you may be able to drop something to add a third heat sink.

Dual heavy beams are easy on the fitting, cap, and tracking. They also have decent range to hit the BSs which may spawn far from you and those that like to hang at 50km or so. And, with the ship bonus to rof and two or three heat sinks they have a very high rof even if the volley is not much. Also, modulated dual heavy beams are rather cheap for meta 4 guns. Mega pulse can be hard to fit on the geddon, and unless you have large pulse spec for the use of scorch I would not suggest using large pulses.

I used a drone link in the 8th high, and had a flight of medium and light em or thermal drones. With the other 50m3 of drone space i could carry ecm drones and spares. The rigs would be some mix of CCC and ANP. Good luck to you out there.Smile
