Retreiver ganked in high sec looking for tank fits

Can we all take a moment to just appreciate the OP?

They were ganked in highsec while mining, and rather than come on here and ***** and whine and complain about getting killed, then proceed to propose a series of terrible buff ideas, then a series of nerfs, then some completely ******** highsec mechanic overhauls, he's here to ask about how to avoid it in the future.

Thank you OP. Thank you.

Also, just a quick note, if you are fitting a Retriever for tank, you're better off getting a Procurer because it will have more tank and the same yield. The only exception is if you really need the ore hold.

I think the best variant for solo mining without hauler alt is:

Quote:
[Retriever, New Setup 1]
Power Diagnostic System II
Damage Control II
Mining Laser Upgrade II

Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I

Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

You have your 20k Omni, 47,5% on your lowest resistance against Catalyst (51% Thermal, 47,5% Kinetik) and still can use Tech 2 Strip Miners and MLU.

The Procurer might have the larger theoretical ore yield but at least in highsec you will have to mine nearly empty asteroids more than once and thus loose some of your extra yield. But more important, you will loose lots of yield/hr when you need to fly to a station to empty your cargo, something a Retriever has to do less than half as often as a procurer.

97% of girls would die if Justin Bieber were about to jump off a cliff. Post this in your sig if you`re part of the 3% yelling,

"DO A BARREL ROLL!"

This one. Not really much point in spending ISK trying to tank a retriever.

If you want to use a retriever, move out to a quieter system.

Retriever you can put a DCU and T2 Invuln but it still can be ganked. Get a Procurer

84k EHP and all resists above 70%

[Procurer, Highsec]
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Damage Control II

Medium Shield Extender II
EM Ward Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Hobgoblin II x5

[Procurer, anti-Catalyst loadout]
Prototype Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I
Damage Control II

Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Limited Kinetic Deflection Field I
Limited Thermic Dissipation Field I
Limited Adaptive Invulnerability Field I

Modulated Strip Miner II, Scordite Mining Crystal I

Small Core Defense Field Extender I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I

more useful against Catalyst ganker

(assume Level 5 char)
100k EHP against Caldari anti-matter
98k EHP against Void

also, useful against T2 projectile ammo as all use kinetic/thermic

Not a bad fit. All T2 projectile ammo may use Kinetic/Thermic but EMP is a popular choice. EMP does mostly EM damage but a smaller amount of Explosive and Kinetic . Just curious but you're talking about the EHP for a level 5 character but you're fitting T1 mods... T2 wouldn't cost much more and give you more EHP

You might want to update your EFT because the Retriever uses medium size rigs.

The absolute best you can do with a Highsec procurer without breaking the bank is the following:

[Procurer, Highsec]

Mining Laser Upgrade II
Damage Control II

EM Ward Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Thermic Dissipation Field II
Kinetic Deflection Field II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Hobgoblin II x5

It will give you 100/130/127k EHP hot (82/99/98 cold) against EMP/antimatter/Void respectively. It fits with no implants (although its a little tight in CPU), and the procurement cost is 35mil rigged. Lastly, it sports a MLA so that your yield doesn't suffer much.

Hope that helps, cheers..C:

I was recently suicide ganked in high sec and I am wondering if there are any good ways to avoid this or any good fits that will keep me alive till concord arrives?

2x strip miner whatever
1x adaptive
1x DCU
2x MLU II
1x anti-em reinforcer
1x anti-therm reinforcer
1x field extender

Losing the adaptive for a scanner hurts the tank.

Takes 2 catalysts to gank in .5 space. I watched a pilot with 3% implants flying a t2 neutron catalyst overheated fail to gank one in .5 space.

Procurer is much tankier though.

this fit keep it cheap (only 6 million to fit, and average cost for catalyst is around 5-10 million. at this point it will cost gankers more than it cost miner.)

and it would work fine for anyone who have basic skills of defense
it would take about 2 days to train skills needed to fit what you just see.

at character with zero skill on anything would get 60k EHP against Void Hybrid (good player would have mining barge level 3 asap which give 73k EHP)

mwd and cloak. activate both and align. deactivate cloak when cycle on MWD passes green and Warp.

I suicide gank retrievers and covetors for fun and tears.

I will always scan my targets before engaging.

There is only really one thing I can find on the scan that will put me off:

Damage control.

Fit one these on your retriever and I won't gank you, others might but I've learnt not to bother, there is usually an easier target a few belts or systems over.

Fly a procurer and I won't even warp to your belt.

Fair play to the OP for having this approach. No tears.

This is what I just bought and used yesterday. Mining isn't my primary thing at all, but I can do it in the background while doing other EVE activities, and the Procurer with a fit like that is not only effective, but also inexpensive.

The yield and storage is low, but like I said, mining isn't my primary source of income so I'll take whatever it generates for me.

You can't really tank a Retriever enough to stop a suicide gank from a single Catalyst unless you are willing to ruin the mining yield. So either you forego the tank and fit for maximum yield with a view to covering the occasional ship loss or as others have said fly a Procurer instead. They are far less attractive as a ganking target.
