Hello.

As someone who enjoys solo and small gang PvP, I think CCP should consider buffing HAMs.

Why? Rapid lights are good against small targets but simply impractical in many other situations.

HAM's should certainly be worse versus small ships than RLMLs but at the moment they barely scratch interceptors— even with a target painter.
In a gun based ship you can at least try to minimize angular velocity to help your guns track more effectively, but as a missile ship pilot versus interceptors there is almost nothing you can do except warp off.

This imo is a problem.
HAMs are only one weapon class up from light missiles. I would expect torpedos to be this useless at damaging frigates (as large turrets are) but not the medium sized missiles.

So in conclusion, I think the effectiveness of HAMs versus small targets should be increased, to make missile cruisers and battlecruisers more versatile.

@Winchester. It is forbidden to make personal attacks.

Obviously a lot of the people posting here don't even solo pvp.

Yes you can hit interceptors with medium turrets. Have any of you seen the Kovorix nomen video?

Rapid lights used to be really good in general pvp but they nerfed them. Now hardly anyone in the solo pvp community uses HAMs.

So I'm simply suggesting they buff HAMs versus smaller ships to make it somewhat viable to solo with HAMs.

I agree that missiles are currently ******, esspecially against smaller targets. But I think that's mostly due to that missiles don't have tracking computer-equivalants. A turret ship can simply add more tracking through the use of these. A missile boat has nothing to increase explosion velocity or decrease explosion radius, hence they really can't fit as effectively as well-rounded as turret-based ships.

Giving them a hard-buff however would open up a world of exploits I'm afraid. I do understand your annoyance, but this is unfortunately not a good solution.

I don't mind, and in fact I would love to see mid-slot modules that increase missile's damage application

@op
rockets are for drones, frigates, destroyers.
light missiles are for drones, frigates, destroyers.
hvy assault missiles are for destroyers, cruisers, BC's.
hvy missiles are for destroyers, cruisers, BC's.
cruise missiles are for BC's, BS, Capitals*
torpedoes are for BC's BS, Capitals*
citadels are for BS's and Capitals.

* both are also good at killing cruisers and destroyers, if they are slow moving.

Would you like to know more? :P

Yes?!

Good, then you should know in the t2 version of each missile type there are also:

Rage missiles.
Javelin missiles.

Javelin missiles deal less damage, but are better at hitting smaller faster targets, while rage missiles deal more damage, but are better for slower larger targets.

So if you want to use heavy missiles and be effective at hitting smallish/fast targets, use the Heavy Javelin missiles. Or alternatively, you could use Light Rage missiles, and almost get the same result.

But for most effective damage, you should always pay attention to the explosion radius, explosion speed, velocity, of your missile, along with and the signature size of the targeted ship and its speed.

I think CCP need to do more research on detonation velocities.

Detonation Velocities

Looking at that table our explosion velocities seem right and it seems reasonable that an inty doing 8000 mps should be able to outrun most explosions but these are velocities of explosions in open air. A solid warhead encasing an explosive will cause the explosion velocity to increase around 50 to 70%.... by manipulating the explosive head, you can ensure the direction of the blast is towards your target (shaped charge).

So really a missile that gets in range of an interceptor should rip its legs off and swat it like a bug.

Maybe Diamond Zerg should fly a explosion velocity bonused ship for small targets? But he also wants to apply great damage to targets his own size so no one know what he really wants.

HAM's are awesome.

I can easily kill small ships. You have an issue.

That's pretty much what explosion radius abstracts away. Think of explosion velocity not as the speed of the explosion but the terminal yawing speed of the missile, and thus its ability to line up the detonation cone with the projected trajectory of the target.

He wants a ship that does everything with equal effect to everything else. An "I win" ship, if you will.

Ever see those little charts that some people put in their bios:

Guristas - Kinetic/Thermal
Serpentis - Thermal
Angels - Explosive
etc.

Mine goes like this:

Guristas - Use ******* missiles!
Serpentis - Use ******* missiles!
Angels - Use ******* missiles!
Etc.
