Day 4 and lost my fist ship. But it's cool.

Was pissed at myself for a day but I know I'll look back on this and laugh at how I thought it was such a good "ship" in about 6 months.

Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
In the case of a new pilot like yourself, almost everything you can fly is affordable, so just stick with it.

Welcome to Eve, and stick with the positive attitude.

+1 OP for the positive attitude.

I lost 5 destroyers, 2 cruisers and 3 battlecruisers and a battleship, and I'm just getting started. Lol

It's a bit of a right of passage. It's so different from any other game that it hurts til you get used to it.

My first was a Cormorant in the infamous 'Damsel in Distress' mission.

Ah I remember it well. I'd been flying frigs up until then, and this thing felt like a battleship in comparison. I was so full of myself I aggrowed the main dude and triggered the extra waves.

I was furious at losing that beloved ship! Think I rage quit for a whole day.

Pretty soon bro, you'll be buying the hulls 10 at a time!

Open question: Do you remember your first loss?

Yep I lost a really terribly fit Rifter in a 0.2 to some lowsec pirate types in my first week of playing. Dual tanking is bad mmkay.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

(Other than the training mission where you lose a rookie ship) I lost a Destroyer to a level 2 mission. That would be my only loss for some time - after a while I'd upgraded my Myrmidron to a Dominix, and thought 'eh, let's go looking for trouble in the old Myrm'. Scanned down a wormhole, ran three sites in it, and then lost the Myrm to a three-person gang. Gave a 'gf' and got my pod out.

Biggest loss (which wasn't all that big at all) was an Ishtar when I went out to see the sights in nullsec.

You mean plural right?

AKA, my first 7 or 8 losses were all to the same 3 people. I joined a corp, we got wardecced and as I was new and nobody explained to me what that meant, I kept feeding them kill after kill after kill...up to the point where the attacker actually contacted me and explained it all and donated some ISK back so I wouldn't quit the game.

My first and only (so far) PvE loss was a derpy Corax in the "Tracking the Queen (Part 3)" SoE arc mission when I was 6 days old. I cried to sleep that night, mainly due to the fact I kept all my newbie belongings in the ships hold at the time it popped.

The next day I bought another one and finished the arc, soloing Dagan in an epic 30min fight (that used almost every missile I had in my hold). Everyone I asked was telling me it was impossible to break his tank solo in my first week with LMs. Felt like a boss!

I also remember some close calls in L2 missions with a Corax, one of them being called Mission of Mercy. Thats a nasty one for new players..together with Damsel and Stop the thief.

My first loss of any consequence was a faction fit Vigilant worth probably 700m at the time.

The embarrassing part was that I was trying to teach a nublet how easy it was to farm COSMOS sites. He learned something alright.

Ahhhh, losing your first ship, what a beautiful event. I remember my first ship destroyed was a mammoth whilst mining, got suicide ganked. Keep up the positive attitude man! Lose plenty more and take some people down with you every time!

Lost my first ship (Cormorant) while on SoE arc because I fell asleep.

Rage quit and contemplated biomassing for a few hours.

Love the positive attitude though.

If I remember correctly, the fiirst ship I lost was an Incursus doing the SoE arc. My first pvp loss was a Tristan in Old Man Star, where I also got on my first killmail (a Drake).

Ooh, if we mean "stupid" losses, then one of my alt's losses tops it all.

I lived in null-sec and thus got used to "let's web that guy you are with to make him get in warp faster in his big ship".
Then a friend joined EVE and clone jumped to assist him in the SoE arc, in which at one point I thought, let's make him instantly warp to the station by putting 4 webs on him.

I liked the idea, too bad CONCORD didn't. He did get a nice introduction though to what CONCORD does to offenders...bye bye fun-fitted apocalypse (fitted to assist him with Dagan: Reps in high-slot, webs in mids to slow Dagan, capacitor enhancing in low).

I was maybe 3 days into the game. I had recently finished the tutorial, such as it was, and was out jetcan mining in my starter system in a Bantam. A canflipper soon turned up and flipped my can. Being the good newbie that I was, I had already read up on canflippers and I knew that I had the right to shoot at him in highsec.

So I did a quick "show info" on the Punisher he was flying, and discovered that it was a frigate. I thought to myself, "wait, I have a destroyer back in the station. Destroyers are bigger than frigates." So I went and got my Thrasher and hopped from belt to belt until I found the guy, then attacked him. The fight was short and decisive. I can still remember the way the other newbies in the belt were freaking out in local.

I still have that canflipper in my watch list. He logs in sometimes. One day when he least expects it, there I'll be.

I didn't. Or, more precisely, I remember the loss, but totally forgot that it was my first one.

I was travelling in a Shuttle, AFK, with the autopilot running. (Already a bad idea.) When I came back to my keyboard, I was at my destination, but in a pod. I was really surprised that someone would blow it up. I was also confused that my pod had continued the route. I lost a +2 implant that I was carrying in said Shuttle to sell somewhere else.

Only a bit later, when I learned more about the game and how to read kill mails did I realized that I was killed by gate-camping NPCs in a low-sec system. I must have had used the 'shortest path' option. Oops. Even worse idea, when combined with AFK flying.

In my defence, I was 3 days old.

My next loss was also a Shuttle, in null-sec, but that time I fully expected to lose it. I was taking a stroll, looking how long I could last. (Answer: surprisingly long, no one was there, after roaming for over an hour, I lost it on my way out, on the gate to low-sec.)

The Assault is also a sketchy mission sometimes for newer players. My first major loss was an epicly badly fit hurricane with several kinds of gun on it :)

First loss was a shuttle + pod. I was autopiloting afk thru lowsec, and got smartbombed to death by a Nyx pilot who was apparently kinda well known. Derp.

First PvP loss was similarly dumb. Took my coercer belt ratting in a .02 system, where someone in a Vagabond promptly sent me running home in a pod.

First loss that hurt. I spent every ISK I had on an Armageddon. Fit was atrocious, as were my support skills. But battleships are big! Surely this baby will fly through these missions like crazy! It blew up in its very first mission : Angel Extravaganza.

Ahhh, fun times!

I think I lasted two weeks before my first ship loss. It was a Tristan. The Tristan is still my favorite ship to just screw around in. Nostalgia.

OP: As a member of a corp with their killboard about as deep red as you can get I will say: You can lose ships all the time, still make money, and still enjoy the game. Plus some ship losses make great stories.
