Out of Game Events and Gatherings

Hi all,

Last year before Fanfest, a few devs and EVE players went skiing and snowboarding together at the local ski area. It was a lot of fun (even thought the weather was horrible and some people claim they almost died.... they didn't) and we want to repeat it this year if possible

So the idea is to go on Tuesday April 29th, with Wednesday as possible backup if people are interested. Fanfest is a bit later this year, so there is no knowing how much snow we'll have or if the area is even still open at that time (last year we had plenty of snow in beginning of May, but that's not always the case).

This is not an event or organized at all by CCP or me, and we are not responsible for any of it.

I, CCP karkur/Bára, will just be driving up to Bláfjöll that day with a few EVE nerds, and it would be really cool if more people could join; that’s all

We are just going to have fun. If you have never gone, you can still join and have a good time (although probably falling quite a lot like everyone does in the beginning). I’m no pro, but I can try to give people some tips

Ski Area:

• The mountain is called Bláfjöll and is only 30-40 min drive from downtown Reykjavík.
• It's a pretty small(this is Iceland after all), but fun
• The opening hours are 2pm - 9pm, and during this time of the year, it will still be bright at 9pm.
• The ski area is often closed due to wind, so we always just hope for the best, don’t get too disappointed if it will be closed (Wednesday can be backup date for those interested).
• It’s spring time, so the snow could be very questionable or even gone by the time Fanfest rolls around. I'm sure we'll have fun as long as there is some snow, but keep in mind that we might have to cancel this altogether
• You can rent skis, snowboards and boots at the ski area, but sadly they don’t have helmets for adults :(

What you need:

• warm skiing clothes (waterproof pants, jacket, warm baselayer, whatever will keep you from freezing)
• gloves
• hat
• (helmet would be good)

Getting There:
You will have to arrange that yourself (I can provide directions to the place).
Fleet up and rent a car together. Many CCPers rent a car from www.cheapjeep.is when they want to go skiing or get outside the city for a little bit.


Cost: (isk=icelandic króna)

• Ski pass: 3100 ISK + 1000 ISK for the card (500 ISK refundable)
• Ski/snowboard rental: 4500 ISK
• Car rental + gas: ?
(everything can be paid with credit/debit cards)

My plan:

• Hopefully drive up there around 1.30-2pm to get an early start (other CCPers are probably going at 4 or later)
• Have lots of fun!

This sounds a great idea, I'm in.

I should be able to hire a car too (if anyone wants a lift from Reykjavik let me know), as I'm considering going walking up Esja on Wednesday too.
