EVE University
Founded March 2004

Regular public classes, both theoretical and practical, on all aspects of life in New Eden - combat mechanics, ship fitting, PvE activities, PvP tactics and many many more - for more details visit: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Classes.

Here at EVE University - a player-run initiative - we hold regular classes, the vast majority of which are open to the public, on pretty much every aspect of EVE Online. Classes on missioning, fitting your ship, armour and shield tanking, combat scouting and probing, wormholes & exploration, and so on. By default all our classes are public, which means absolutely anyone can join them.

You can see a schedule of our upcoming classes on our calendar: http://calendar.eveuniversity.org/ - note the links at the bottom to import it into your calendar application of choice. We also have an in-game mailing list to announce upcoming classes - join the mailing list Classes.E-UNI

In addition upcoming classes are posted in the Scheduled Classes section of our own forum, where you can find details of the class and provide feedback afterwards. Classes are held on our public Mumble server and in in-game chat channels, the connection & channel details can all be found on this page - http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Classes

Feel free to ask questions in this thread, and we'll post notices of upcoming classes here too.

Hope to see you in class soon!

PS: another thing we LOVE is older players giving their time to hold classes, either joining E-UNI to teach or as a guest lecturer. If this interests you, contact Titus Tallang or Spanky Ikkala.

Other publicly-available resources:

  • Huge wiki containing information on virtually everything in EVE Online: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org.
  • Public help channel (join the channel E-UNI in-game, or look in the Help section of the channel list) for all your questions and answers.
  • Recorded class library where you can find recordings of previous classes held.

Highly recommended.

I have created audio recordings of 3 of the classes last week and there is a huge collection of audio recordings on the eve uni wiki.

Here is the class library:
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/EVE_University_Class_Library

some of these are old and outdated, most of them are still very good.

Objective sighted. Target locked. Lasers activated. Pew-pew-pew. Die roid..., DIE!

As my dear colleague appears to be slacking off, here's this week's class overview:

Monday, 10th of March

02:00 - Missioning 101: Wartime edition
That we're currently not at war doesn't stop us from preparing for the inevitable next time. Thus, Loyd Smith will be giving this Missioning 101 lecture with some additional wartime-related information.

Tuesday, 11th of March

01:00 - Armor Tanking 101
I could do another paragraph on what this class is all about - but seeing as we schedule this so often, I'll just save my ideas for next time and leave you with this image, which says more than a thousand words. Not more than a thousand words by lecturer Tycho Loor, though!

20:00 - Logistics 101
In lecturer Baron Anjin Toronagasan's own words - "I Can Healing Beams, and so can YOU!". Nothing else to say here.

Wednesday, 12th of March

01:00 - Mining 101
How to murder space rocks in the most efficient fashion possibly while serving as the foundation of EVE's economy - with Chaos Utama.

We obviously give our Directorate too much free time - Director of Logistics Turhan Bey once again joins us, this time to give a lecture on the mysteries of "not undocking" and "swimming in ISK Scrooge-style". Advice on the best anti-drowning techniques may or may not be included.

23:00 - EVEMon and EFT
How about some user-friendly interfaces to go along with your EVE? Annaka Hansen explains how to best plan ahead using two very powerful tools. (Note: Attendees are strongly urged to download EFT and EVEMon before the class - please see the announcement thread for details.)

Friday, 14th of March

02:00 - Fitting 101
"Drag module to ship." Sounds simple, right? Robnik Charante is standing by and ready to explain to you why it isn't, and how to avoid many of the basic pitfalls along the way.

09:00 - Flying Safe
"How to not die." Sounds like a simple enough premise, right? By iavatus.

17:00 - Q&A: Jonny Pew
As part of EVE University's birthday celebrations, we're joined by the infamous Jonny Pew, who will be happy to answer any question you'd like to ask.

Saturday, 15th of March

Friday, 21st of March

18:30 - Q&A: Chribba
That's a face that simply doesn't lie - join us for a very special Q&A session with one of the most famous players in EVE - Chribba. If you don't know who he is, then you must be new here - let's just say he's considered trustworthy enough to act as a third-party broker in the transfer of supercapitals. Oh, and he owns a mining Revelation. And a mining Titan or four. And a mining Revenant. This is a man that takes his Veldspar very seriously.

Saturday, 22nd of March

00:00 - Missioning 101
Shoot red crosses for profit - now with extra efficiency. Jim Parsons goes into the ins and outs of saving the Damsel in Distress repeatedly - she seems to rather lack basic instincts like, say, self-preservation.

17:00 - All Those Darn Buttons
New to EVE? Feeling lost when it comes to navigating the UI? Don't worry - its layout is rather logical when you get right down to it. By Danielle en Divalone.

19:00 - Q&A: Future Corps
UNI Graduate and CSM member James Arget and a number of his colleagues in Future Corps, one of the more well-known organizations to occupy high-class wormholes, will be joining us for this rabbit hole-themed edition of our Q&A session.

Sunday, 23rd of March

00:00 - Wormholes and Anoikis
An introduction to the mysteries of wormhole space - by Awkens Ryder. Nothing else I can say here - I'd be overusing the rabbit hole joke otherwise.

02:00 - Game Mechanics Q&A
This weekly Q&A session by University professor Seamus Donohue, also known as The Walking Encyclopedia™, is intended to answer any and all questions you may have about various obscure game mechanics.

LeeLoo Shoe continues on her quest to make me run out of new descriptions for these. Floating dog gifs included.

Winning the war - not the fight. Lots of beautiful metagame thinking with Spanky Ikkala. Highly recommended.

Friday, 28th of March

Shoot Sansha's space zombies, collect isk. What do you need to start, how do you start, and all the other important stuff. With iavatus.

13:00 - The Art of War
More metagame thinking founded in real-life military theory with Spanky Ikkala.

This. Is. Gonna. Be. Good. Don't. Miss.

Saturday, 29th of March

16:00 - The Tao of EVE
This sadly didn't happen last week, so I get to reuse my description, right? "LeeLoo Shoe will attempt to demystify the EVE player's mindset in this class aimed at new players. Definitely an interesting experience." Yup, still applies.

20:00 - Q&A: Elo Knight
This dude killed a Revenant once. I think that should be sufficiently convincing for everyone. Do not miss this.

22:00 - Capital Ships 101 (Singularity)
Big ships - find out how they work. By yours truly. I'd say "highly recommended" but I'm probably biased here. Also, setting up Singularity is strongly, heavily, extremely recommended for this one - see the thread for details.

Sunday, 30th of March

02:00 & 19:00 - Game Mechanics Q&A
This weekly Q&A session by University professor Seamus Donohue, also known as The Walking Encyclopedia™, is intended to answer any and all questions you may have about various obscure game mechanics - now with two sessions for better coverage!

Monday, 31st of March

00:00 - Fitting 101
Take module, put module on ship. How to pick right module and which module is bad module. Cerulean Ice will tell you this.

03:00 - EVE Math
Everything in EVE is spreadsheets, even if you don't see the spreadsheets and they're not actually spreadsheets. They're formulas though, and beautiful ones at that. Cerulean Ice tells you more.

18:00 - Cap is Life!
Capacitor is important - it makes your (most of) your ship's modules work, and when you run out, those modules no longer work. Yes, I'm stating the obvious. If you want your ship's modules to keep working, DeSaros Umekawa tells you how to not make your capacitor run out.

20:30 - Introduction to E-UNI
If you've joined the UNI recently and don't quite know what you can gain from it, this class by Lysh Ebolas is definitely worth attending. (Due to the nature of this class, it is primarily aimed at University members.)

Thursday, 3rd of April

18:00 - Introduction to Scouting
Being a scout means being your FC's remote eyes. Being a good scout means being working eyes, which certainly sounds like it'd be a helpful thing. Archemorus Abyss will tell you how you can improve your intel from "aaah f**k I'm tackled going down aaah mommy" to "I've got eyes on X, Y, Z in A system on the B gate". Well, and some other good stuff. If you have any interested in scouting work at all - definitely don't miss this class.

How the join EVE University - the proceedings, the workings behind it and other interesting information. By certified Queue Destroyer™ Laura Karpinski.

Sunday, 6th of April

This weekly Q&A session by University professor Seamus Donohue, also known as The Walking Encyclopedia™, is intended to answer any and all questions you may have about various obscure game mechanics.

10:15 - Ice Harvesting 101
Ice serves as the basis of many of EVE online's trade goods, such as the fuel used to keep control towers online and faciliate jump drive travel. Maris T'loni explains how to procure this resource in an efficient manner.

15:00 - Roundtable: Wormhole CSM Candidates
Did you know the word "candidate" stems from the latin word candidus, meaning "white"? In ancient rome, candidates in elections would typically bleach their togae in white to symbolize purity. Either way, I digress. Jessan Makanen went through the work of getting five CSM candidates - Asayanami Dei of Adhocracy, corbexx of No Holes Barred, James Arget of Sleeper Social Club, Karen Galeo of Infinite Anarchy and Proclus Diadochu of Red Coat Conspiracy - to join him for a roundtable about both wormhole life and the upcoming elections.
Now we just need to get them to wear white togae for this.

20:00 - Q&A: Asayanami Dei
After attending the Roundtable a few hours prior, Asayanami Dei of Adhocracy will join us for another entry in our ongoing Q&A series - once again moderated by Neville Smit.

Free classes - it's almost like free beer, except with more classes and less beer.

Monday, 9th of June

08:00 - Cloaking 101
How to move like a ninja - unseen, unheard, unable to do anything. Well, maybe I'm partially wrong on the last part. Ask Spanky Ikkala for all the details.

09:00 - Stealth Bombing 101
Turns out I was wrong about not being able to do anything. Well, isn't that just lucky - we happen to have a class about it. Once again by Spanky Ikkala, our resident person for all things sneaking.

11:30 - Missiles 101
Missiles, more missiles, all the missiles. Lob contrails of doom, death and destruction at your foes from over two hundred kilometers away, leaving them with no hope of escape or retaliation. 02:00 - The Power of EVE's Social Aspects
You see another player you can shoot him - but do you shoot him? For many people, the obvious answer would be "yes" - yet sometimes you don't, because they have little blue icons next to their names. Or your obvious answer is "no", but you do, because the icon is red. Why do people do that? We're here to find out - in this special guest lecture with Lanctharus Onzo, writer of the Cap Stable podcast.

19:00 - CSM9 Q&A: Xander Phoena
All Sugar and sweet wasn't your sort of deal? Well maybe this one can draw your attention - part two of our CSM9 Q&A series with Xander Phoena of the Crossing Zebras podcast.
