1. EVE's monument is awesome. It is yet another string in the rich tapestry that makes EVE real.

2. It will have all our names on it, that means over a half million and counting names.

3. Because it is listing all of us, in one location, it very much looks like 'local'.

Therefore, let it be ordained that the monument henceforth shall be known as: LOCAL SPIKING

It is the EVE thing to do.

You do realize that in a few decades, when society collapses, and thousands of years go by. Future humans will "discover" this monument with the time capsule inside. Then mistake it for the word of god. (In 10,000 years a laptop might aswell be a stone tablet.)

And entire religions will develop based on events and misunderstood quotes from our time and society. Wars will be fought over who version is right and wrong! People will be slaughtered in the name of the "Sun God" (insert name here.)

A new dark age will happen, where all scientific research is stopped from fear of change of those in power. Further lives would be needlessly lost. Until 1,000 years pass and people start to make scientific progress again. Solely based on the notion "you can't kill us all!"

Until, after a few hundred years, the social structure creates new and different forms of entertainment, even digital entertainment. And within that, a small group will stand out amongst the crowd and define itself to a generation.

A monument will be erected to honour those, designed by a artist during that time. Where they'd want future generations to know their stories long after no one remembers them.

Then, in a few decades after, when society collapses, and thousands of years go by. Future humans will "discover" this monument with.................

I love how history repeats itself!

I'm not worried. Humans don't need elaborate ruses to be unkind to each other. It's just another pretext.

This is the first, that I am aware of, true monument to a video game. It is also a very special kind of video game. The time capsule could perhaps later contain the kind of long-lasting artifact that could be read with technology that does not require to be more advanced than a magnifying glass. Such artifacts already exist.

The monument will have my name on it and though that does not mean anything in the vastness of the universe, I'll tell you how I'm thinking about that: as technology progresses, we are going to be seeing star drives. NASA is working on a warp drive. An actual warp drive. We are seeing the first beginnings of cryo-stasis chambers. Today that does not mean anything but we're just starting out. If people had concluded ENIAC was just too clumsy and left it there, none of this would have happened. It starts out painfully slow/clumsy/ugly, and then we learn how to do it right. Today we have technologies that actually work and they do so reliably and on a global scale. So, I see a star drive and cryo technology being applied technologies on the consumer electronics level.

So, fast-forward a few centuries and we have actual pod pilots, flying actual star ships. Someone of that community will dig through the antecedents and find us, quirky people. And the artifacts we left behind. Rifter USB-ports! Battleship models, art work, code, stories. And a monument. Our names will be on that monument. Because they will go to the 'ancestral home' of EVE and they will find it in fair Reykjavik, whatever since happened to that lovely city.

And they will find my name on it. And when that happens, I want them to recognize it.

This monument, and all that will come after, makes EVE Online a tactile universe. It has meaning and depth.

EVE is real.

personally i think they should use the name of every character thats on at a certain time, that would include large numbers of alts and bots. I dont know how to do the bots but CCP does know what all accounts belong to 1 person and can use that main account toon to lower the number of names that other wise have to be on the statue.

May I suggest these 3 structures to be used on the statue:

m 0 o

Respect to those game changers; Masters of Ownage, they helped make eve turn from a mining sim into a pvp game.
For me eve is and will be a glorified chat room, until we can finally separate the spreadsheets online into a rich AmbulationCool

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification
