Gas prices are high enough in the real world, I can't see why someone would use real money to pay for overpriced space fuel too.

Clearly you have not heard. Internet spaceships is serious business.

But seriously... People flip PLEX all the time... Some might buy pimped out T3s... surely some do it to fuel POSes after a cash flow problem.

Doesn't the fact that it is only Oxytopes suggest that there will be a limit eventually where people will just switch over to different ships, towers, etc?

Oh dear, are you saying we might turn nyxes and erebuses into space tombs forever destined to do nothing but do sanctums because they're literally too expensive to move, and they can't be reprocessed?

My, that would just be dreadful.

i have little respect for the intelligence of the common pubbie but I find it unlikely even the common pubbie will take real money and turn it into space money, so he can take that space money and with a great deal of effort turn that space money into less space money

All snark aside, is this a purposed thing, or merely a matter of scientific inquiry? Or do you simply dislike the Gallente? I have to say I don't see much of a reaction besides people switching away from Gallente towers. It seems that many POSers would much rather put up with a day of tower-misery than fight for a cheaper source of fuel. And with many invention/manufacturing concerns running as close to even as they are, I don't see many just accepting the price increase.

In other news, what is the ice barge destroyed total at this point?

To be fair, IE has a problem not eating paste.

Heh, when you put it like that, sure...

But pride alone gets people to do all kinds of things that are contrary to their ouwn self-interests.

$15 bucks here and there, on a credit card so you don't even feel it up front? This does not seem like a fantasy to me in a world where in my neighborhood a movie ticket is $11 (more for 3D) and a small popcorn at the theater is now $5.75.

People have been buying $5+ coffees for how long now?

People will tell themselves the record high prices on PLEX make it a wise idea! What they fritter the isk away on... that is a different story.

i have no problem believing idiots will spend real money to buy isk, i'm just not seeing them valuing running a reaction farm so much to pay real money for the priviledge of some of the least fun parts of the game without even turning a space money profit

Agreed... But where someone draws the line? Plenty of people manufacture things because they think it is the right thing to do when it would be cheaper or easier to buy. It is a game after all.

But mostly I am talking about the very uncertainty you mentioned a few posts back. Will someone on the verge of space bankruptcy gamble that you will be bored within a month and finance themselves for another month with PLEX?

the question is essentially "do I mothball the farm for a month, or do I convert it to caldari"

mothballing the farm is relatively painless and your potential losses aren't that big since pos mods are cheap

well first I sincerely applaud the effort in doing an interdiction of this scale, it had me scrambling around trying to figure out if I had enough friends to do this to another tope (I dont f/a).

I tend to agree with the reasoning in other posts in this thread that indies will just swop out to other towers.

Is the interdiction worth continuing to make life difficult for every gallente based capital in game? Maybe.

anyhoo i unloaded my stocks cause I had more than doubled my ISK just selling to buy orders and thats enough for me, let someone else sit on a sell with it.

Now watching the continuing effects with great interest Smile

As we all know, it is becoming virtually impossible to source oxytopes anywhere in eve for anything less than a fuckgoons price. Oxytopes have solidly broken the 1000 barrier again today, with no indication it is doing anything but going up as goons continue to murder anyone who so much as looks at ice funny - and that now includes pathetic 0.0 alliances such as IRC who actually mine ice in 0.0.

Obviously, many foolish gallente tower owners bet they could ride out the storm, but at this point it's starting to become apparent that there is no oxytopes salvation: hell, few people even bother trying to resist in megatanked hulks anymore. It's just people in covetors hoping they're not worth suiciding (they are~) and untanked mackinaws that don't seem to understand why nobody is mining this fantastically valuble ice in highsec, a completely safe part of the EVE universe.

What market impacts will this have?
