Lowsec piracy isn't really profitable by all accounts and hasn't been for years. Highsec piracy is *very* profitable.

So much this ^

Sure, gatecamping entry systems and/or pipes in lowsec, popping stupid haulers can be fun from time to time, but it's nowhere near as profitable. The main reason is that some people have the false pretense that their stuff is safe in high sec, hence they will bling fit their mission boats, and haul billions in untanked T1 haulers. Use your imagination and creativity on how to prove them otherwise.

I remember when lowsec piracy was profitable, you'd find a weak target, engage it, usually solo and sift the loot for high value items. It don't seem to work like that any more though.

I haven't heard of anyone being ransomed in a long time, at least not in low sec.

Ironic but I got ransomed today on my main in low. Dude warped in and engaged me as in I'm on the FINAL engagement of a .3 plex. So pissed I went and got another cup of coffee after engaging self destruct . ;)

It's only profitable if your good at it. That said, you have to start somewhere, and if you want to earn your ISK that way you just need to start in cheap ships (especially important for newer PvPers) and just get on with it until it becomes profitable.

Also, as other have said, highsec piracy is much more profitable (and easier) than lowsec piracy. Low sec piracy is entirely possible, but your targets tend to be other pirates, unless your willing to camp gates all day.

Like most professions, it depends on how good and dedicated you are. Even solo, you could make billions in hi sec by ganking.

I'm not a very dedicated gankers myself and mainly target poorly fitted mining ships, on average the loot pays for about the cost of the gank ship.

For quick change, I find flying around in certain ice fields with a hauler and scooping up jet cans fun from time to time.

Psychotic Monk is so humble. Let me refer you to his website www.belligerentundesirables.com and you can make your mind up. The key is finding some fun guys to hang out with instead of being completely solo.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Depends on if you mean a strict definition of piracy, or general douchebaggery.

Because the latter of the two pays pretty well, and it's awful fun to boot. (in both senses of the word)
