EVE New Citizens Q&A

Hey ho!

So guess what I'm still here, nearly a week in the big black and the cliff face of learning curve is yet to send me running to the hills, I've tasted pvp, mining, business and PvE and exploration and I guess I'm starting to like it here. It may be a new game rush but I used to flit between the games I was playing but these day's I only ever feel like logging into New Eden! Does the affliction strike everyone at first!?

Anyways I'm still hesitant about jumping into a player controlled corp although today I was advised to join the Brave Newbies for some PvP action, I was just hoping to get an opinion on the corp or if you'd had any dealings with them in the past?

I endorse BN. Just be aware that joining them will make high sec dangerous for you due to wardecs, so talk to them to ask where to join from.

Brave Newbies as a corp mate of mine described them "Test Alliance on Steroids"

Test Alliance being a null sec conquering alliance founded by Dreddit from Reddit.com where BNI was born.

Newbie friendly, you will definitely get experience in that alliance.

I was speaking to some folk in game today and was told that factional warfare could be a lot of fun to partake in whilst I wen't through the early day's of leveling and can be of some use to a corp.

Was just wondering what it actually required?

Do i need to join any particular corp or just be prepared to die an awful lot? Well any more info/ links useful articles you could chuck my way would be great!

I'll chime in.

First, some general game information.

When you are in a player run corporation, and another player run corporation declares war against you, they can legitimately attack you anywhere in the game. Being in High Sec space does NOT matter. If you are in a player corp that is at war, you are a legitimate target for any member of the corp that is at war with your corp EVERYWHERE in the game.

Concord (NPC high sec police force) will NOT help you if you are attacked as part of a war.
Gate and station security guns will NOT help you if you are attacked as part of a war.

When you join any player run corporation, this is one of the biggest risks you put yourself into.

I started playing Eve less than a year ago. My experience is limited. Joining a player run corporation does not mean you will be at war with another corporation all the time. There are player corps in this game that have never been at war with another corp, but the risk of war is always there. Also, it is possible for multiple player corps to all declare war against one particular player corp at the same time.

Player corps cannot declare war on an NPC corp, CCP does not allow that.

I'm not an official representative of Brave Newbies, I'm just an ordinary member and I joined Brave Newbies less than a month ago.

I gave Eve-Uni some serious consideration when I decided to leave the NPC corp I started the game in. Eve-Uni has a very highly respected reputation for teaching new players how to play Eve. They've been around for years and know what they are doing. They have what is probably the most useful player created information wikis on Eve. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page

When I decided wanted to join a player corp, I checked various blogs and forum posts about the Eve-Uni and Brave Newbies. The general impression I picked up was that Eve-Uni is very methodical. They have quite a few rules about what new players should and should not do. These rules are there to protect new members from making bad mistakes. I'm not saying those rules are a bad thing, if they prevent new players from repeatedly doing stupid things that end badly and cause the players to quit the game because it's "too hard" then those rules are actually a good thing, but not everyone enjoys the restrictions those rules create, even if those restrictions are ultimately there to help and protect the new and inexperienced members of Eve-Uni.

Brave Newbies doesn't do things the same way. There are far fewer rules, but as a result, higher risks of making a bad mistake. One of the reasons why Brave Newbies was created in the first place was because the person who started the corp didn't know that starting their own player corp after playing Eve for only 2 weeks isn't a generally good idea, but in his case it was a great idea.

Brave Newbies does organise various group activities and isn't only about shooting at things but for most members, shooting at things and getting shot at in return is why we joined Brave Newbies.

I really don't know enough about RedvsBlue to make any sensible comments about them.

Well firstly I'd like to say once more all your help has been awesome! But joining a corp is a lot and I mean A LOT more difficult that I originally considered! It definitely aint no guild system that's for sure!

However I've been hearing a good few things about the Brave Newbies, especially on the few Podcast's I listen to so I'm really tempted to join these guy's,

I also feel like joining a larger corporation such as The Brave Newbies will give me firmer ground to learn the game, with their being more veteran players and a range of times. Meaning theres always some one available to help?

I've also received a few offers from smaller corps

But for now I think I'll stick it out in my NPC corp for a while and continue to learn the game, then once their recruitment overload has died down sign up to the Brave Newbies sound like a decent plan to you guy's?
