EDIT
Funny fact is: This hasn't been discovered for 2 years! Pretty much proves that none reads TOS at all.

Why would anyone want to plagiarize anything from this internet spaceship game Shocked

So, people *do* read those things after all? I always thought that was an urban legend.

so ... these dudes are gonna get hotdropped by CCP now, aren't they?

didn't some random "space MMO" try ripping off the EVE wallpapers or something a few weeks back?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

It is probably not even plagiarewrfdsgding, since its just an american madness that you can copyright anything. Having the same rules in your business as an other corporation is not stealing.
Not argueing about it being unethical, or in this case, stupid.

It actually can be very easily under the law. Probably not a good thing as it needlessly complicates the legal process, but yes it definitely can be illegal.

Does that mean that everybody who has been banned from mortal online has to contact the CCP support now? Roll

So if I get banned from Mortal Online I can't get a refund from CCP?

I'm not sure if I would consider this plagiarism. It's embarrassing, but it doesn't seem like it would actually be illegal. Did CCP copyright their TOS? That would be kind of like trying to trademark the little symbol people put next to trademarked things.

I am pretty sure you cannot copyright such things as Terms of Service.
Assume, for example, a copyrighted account sharing clause: That would mean that other games cannot legally forbid this? That would be ridiculous.

But yes, it is embarassing.
But not uncommon. I know of one corp that has copypasted their Code of Conduct directly from another corp to the point where the original corp is still mentioned in the text......

apparently they get away with it cause of a clause in their **** that allows them to claim EVE ships and get away with it.

Halliburton is currently attempting to patent patent trolling (oh god the metagame), so I'm fairly certain that CCP could do something about them plagiarizing their TOS.
