Well, since the meaning of the timer is becoming a wish list or wild speculations:

- It's a countdown to a massive live event that destroys all gates so ships have to use wormholes or dial in system to system warp using "dimensional travel" technology related to the stuff at covert sites and those Villard Wheels. A second timer, lasting 120 seconds (2 minutes) starts to time the incoming tears from all those gate campers who will have to start hunting for their food.

- It's the "final incursion" of Sansha where they throw 100 Revenants at empire and randomly (AND intermittently) disrupt Concord networks.

- It's a heinous PLEX sale so remarkable that even people who never buy PLEX, will buy PLEX.

- It's the countdown to the Hamster Orgy followed by upgrades to the servers. The devs are poking holes in tiny little rubbers.

- The alliance overlords have decided to leave the game, but have one massive battle before they go.

- Tuxford has hit the button and the countdown to destruction cannot be stopped. CCP devs are really just "Eliza" programs now, answering questions on the forums to make it look like they are still there, when in fact, they have all run off and the offices are empty. Damn that Tuxford and his button he killed us all!
