I hope the $100K plus was destroyed thing (converting ISK loss to $$ through PLEX costs) does not become the foremost headline.

If it does we're gonna hear about this "gamers destroying expensive stuff while people starve" thing. Sure, it's not actual money and we all know that but we are dealing with a population that sees a pocket pistol knock someone 10' in the air or buy a machine gun over the counter (not possible since 1934) and end up thinking that's for real. So let's not all go "oooh" and "aaaahh" over the ISK destroyed in this battle lest we get the "populist whip" across our backs.

Sadly, this is inevitable. What?

Almost 5T ISK gone, according to Z-Killboard.

Edit:
And I'll note that Z-Kill is a couple hours behind the fight. So probably well OVER 5T ISK, actually.

Cool; thanks.

Next: Can CFC sustain the attrition rate long enough to break N3PL's will? And not un-relatedly, how is morale holding in teh respective fleets?

It's rare that a faceoff of this magnitude leads to an utter defeat of one side or the other; usually it's willpower that breaks first.

That would utterly shock me.

At least, at this moment.

even if not the gnashing of teeth will be epic and the CS guys will be swamped in petitions for the next few months

Tbh I have no idea how this started. ^^

Holding sovereignty over a system cost ISK. If you don't pay the bill, it drop.

If it WAS a bug, expect riots. If it wasn't a bug, but was a screw-up, expect metaphorical lynchings.

Whoever forgot to pay the bil is literally the aids that is rotting the alliance from the inside out.

Once you hold a system, you have to pay a recurring fee to keep things all up and running. Call it a maintenacne fee, or a power bill, or whatever.

Miss a payment, and ther's no grace: The lights go out. *IF* you can get a new Territorial Claim Unit (TCU) in place before anyone else does, AND defend it until it comes on-line, no harm, no foul.

But - until the new TCU comes online, your stations are vulnerable to capture.

N3PL failed on a Sov bill. "Why" is unknown at his time - Various claims are being made. But they ran new TCUs in - Unfortunately for them, CFC noticed this, and blapped the TCUs before they came on-line. Then they blapped a station until it surrendered to them - the station that contained great masses of PL gear. Then CFC stood up their own TCUs, and have managed to successfully defend them. The CFC/RUS TCUs are up and running, and now to regain the system (and access to their treasure) N3PL will need to do the whole Sov-Grind thing. Which is tedious and expensive.

The fight has turned into a "meeting engagement" where two advancing forces slam into each other, each pouring more and more resources into the fight. Think "Gettysburg" for the US, or "Waterloo" for Europe. Meeting engagements can wreck armies, wreck nations, and turn the tides of wars if allowed to get out of hand.

This one looks well and truly out of hand - Probably north of 6tn ISK lost by now.
