Is there some way to skip the music tracks in the game?

Press escape, go to the audio settings and turn off the music there.

What is/ how do I apply to join either Eve University or RvB and should I hold of doing so until I've completed the tuitorials?

Cheers guys

To join a Corp (any Corp) simply link its name, click on the link then press the "Apply to Join" -button at the bottom.
Joining RvB is only a matter of someone getting around to accepting your application (usually a few hours to a day max; be sure to join their public channel, "R-v-B" (without the ""), and read the MOTD), but otherwise, usually there will be some sort of screening process ranging from days to weeks.

While Eve University especially caters to new players and thus requires virtually no special Eve Online knowledge, even they like applicants to have done the tutorials. They do, however, REALLY like new members to have a least some familiarity with their rules; last time I checked you will be required to give a written report on them during your interview, seriously.

On the other hand, be aware that while RvB has no such requirement (and very few "rules" at all), it is about blowing stuff up. Thus a new player might find himself thrown into a fundamentally hostile environment (3000 players out for his blood, not counting external wardecs) that he is not ready for. Also, it might be difficult to set up a steady stream of income which is necessary to cover his - inevitable - ship losses.
Then again, RvB DOES care about newbie members, you will find helpful people everywhere. Here is a nice "live report" of a month-old new player and his adventures with RvB: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=315016&find=unread

There used to be. My favorite tool in this game was the jukebox, and I've given the devs a LOT of crud for removing it :P lol
Bring it BAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

hehe
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Next best option is having a tablet to run a player. I don't like to needlessly load my gaming system with extra apps running, sucking power, processes and creating more heat etc. But tablets are pretty cheap now, good for music, using eve related apps, reading dotlan or eve-survival without needing to minimize the EVE client.

I don't believe you guy's ;) haha everyone's been pretty decent thus far, even the random guy who I bumped into whilst at a Data site on the scanning tutorial, managed to finally wrap my head around the scanning and hacking today I feel like i've passed some form of exam haha.

still the more depth I learn that there is in EVE I'm not going to lie It's quite scary but I can't help but be impressed.

EVE is the first game I've played where i feel like I'm part of something truly massive ..... for now

tl;dr for my experience so far (~2.5 months in) is that there's d*cks everywhere but most people are generally pretty cool, especially if you message them when the need arises. Note that this has nothing to do with whether or not they will kill/scam/gank/etc you :)
