So I fly around highsec in my little maller or sometimes even a harbinger, and you know I like to bring joy and light whereever I go, kind of like a happy puppy. So I say hello in local, and often tell them that they're looking pretty fine and maybe flirt a little. Sadly almost nobody ever responds to me. Usually I feel like I'm talking to myself.

The only ones that ever seem to talk are the CODE guys and they usually have one track minds. It's a bit like chatting with one of those ELIZA programs. I ask them how they are they tell me I am mining in violation of their code and that I need to pay them 10 mill, which seems kind of steep for a paltry bit of veldspar.

So I want you guys to level: what's the problem? Do I have bad breath? A big arse? Why do people shun me? Do I need to leave Amarr space to get some human interaction or what? What's the deal with space?

It's 'cause you're treating EVE like an online game. Just get 12 mining alts and ISBoxer, you'll be fine.

In EvE, it's safer to assume that a friendly person is trying to set up a Long Con.

Join a player-run corp as opposed to the silly NPC corps. That'll be a huge first step.

Lulz

Kidding aside, join a corp. If mining is your thing I'm sure you can finding a mining corp that is more than happy to BS with you while you pound away at space rocks. If not, find another. Nothing wrong with hopping a few corps until finding one that fits your needs.

Find what you enjoy > find a corp you mesh well with (goals, playtimes, etc) > have fun!

Those CODE guys and their Johnny 691 do tend to be borning to talk to. You should try doing missions in Apanake. We are very talkitive there and will keep you entertained also you can keep tabs on who is losing MTU's and blinged out missioning ships. P

You need to be in a player corp with teamspeak/mumble comms, thats really where the meaningful friendships and conversations happen, and longevity in EvE comes from.... Local isn't for that, local is for target aquisition/avoidance...

Problem is that most people in space are isolationists and or carebears who rather have local closed than having to read any friendly words. And no, you don't NEED a corp or TS to have people to chat with. I'd rather suggest the opposite, considering the low or lack of standards most people have when it comes to communication. And listening to people out there mostly convinces that not using voice chat is the better option.

To get a decent chat in Eve you have to join a community. There are plenty of decent ones and plenty of awful ones.
most high sec PVE corps are awful. avoid them.
there are plenty of decent pvp corps.
plenty of decent wh corps.
several chat channels are relatively open.
the CODE guys are actually very nice.
the belligerent undesirable guys are also cool.
blink chat channel is pretty good.
i am sure there are plenty of others i forgot, have restricted membership or just don't know about.
local isn't a good place for more than a few brief words after combat or scams.
if you play eve without joining one or more communites then imo you miss the point of the game.

Join an EvE corp. That's where the community begins.

Local is essentially for trolling and saying 'good fight.' In the entire time I've played EvE I think I've seen 5-10 real discussions in EvE.

Honestly, hanging in folks Pub chat is always kinda fun - getting to know corps and their former corp members / friends.

Nothing good ever came from local.

Local is for spamming dodgy contracts and ridiculing people, it's also an intel source if you use it right. To chat with people avoid using local.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
