Newbie here, what's up with SOV, HED-GP, etc? Why the rant?

Hi,

I've been playing since yesterday and so far I'm having a blast, made several friends already and everything is great really.

I've been reading lots of "EVE isn't ready for sov war" and lots of "HED-GP"-related ranting. Would you mind explaining to me what are all of those?

Also, I don't get why people are ranting because the game lags when there's 4000+ players on the screen. Ever seen any other 10+ years game handling so many models/actions/etc at the same time?

I'm far from an EVE expert, but I think ranting about the game crashing, not responding to action, etc when in such a HUGE battle is totally dramaqueen-worthy. Yes they could buy more servers, but at this point there might be other problems related to such a load on the network. Anyone would mind sharing what they believe CCP could do to improve this?

Everybody rants but nobody has a real solution, handling 4000+ connection in your netcode is far from an easy job. EA/DICE aren't even able to stabilize a "big franchise" title like BattleField 4, months after release.

TL;DR:

1) What's sov war?
2) What's HED-GP?
3) Any other game handling such an amount of concurrent connections?
4) What /real/ solution would you suggest?

EDIT: Bonus question:
5) What's CSM? A corp? Like CFC?

Thanks everybody and please, I'm not trying to open a flame war. I'm just a noob trying to figure out what's happening.

*scratches head*

1)Sov war stands for sovereingty war. It simply means control of the sistem, which happen to be nullsec only.
2)a nullsec system
3)yeah, no.
4)blob less, maybe?
5)Council of Stelar Management. It's like the house of representatives, except it works. Wait.......

This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165

I have a distinct lack of faith in this thread lasting long. Just a hunch.

Sovereignty, in EVE, defines who 'owns' a system. If you own it, you can anchor structures in it, which make it better for you. Sov War is fighting over who controls that system. Only systems in Null Sec can be owned.

HED-GP is a Nullsec system. It happens to be directly connected to Highsec, but that isn't important in this context. It has been mentioned a lot recently, due to a fight which happened there.

There are no other games with the same number of concurrent connections, to the same 'arena'

Introduce targets to hit at the same time, splitting the large groups up into smaller groups. Shift the fights to being Tactical, rather than strategic.

The CSM are an elected advocacy group for the players, and sounding board for CCP, where they can throw out ideas and have feedback on them, behind an NDA.

The CSM have no direct power, though they can provide some guidance to CCP. Exactly how much 'power' that gives them depends on how much tinfoil you're wearing.

Woo! CSM XI!

Everything starts from a beginning...

First the earth cooled and then the dinosaurs came. But they got too big and fat and died. And then the Arabs came.

Also an HED-GP is an airplane. It's big and long and it's got wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

Thanks for the real actual answers everybody, this makes much more sense.

It's pretty cool to fight over whole systems, and CSM sounds like a really cool idea so players can actually give feedback to CCP.

About those who thinks I'm not a noob, remove that tinfoil hat please guys I'm totally clueless about EVE and I'm really looking forward to playing it more which is why I'm trying to understand what's currently happening on the forums.

I know there must be plenty of trolls like on any other MMO forums but I'm not one of them and I'm not looking to feed any.

I don't troll new players. I will troll Gallente. I hate Gallente and think Gallente should die in a fire (in game).

1) Sov war is short for Sovereignty War, kind of like people swinging their dicks at each other to see who has the biggest

2) HED-GP A strategic system linking Null sec (Outlaw Space) to Hisec directly.

3)Hahaha No

4) A good start would be not jumping 1000+ subcapitals then jumping in your super expensive capital fleet onto us; nobody remembers the good ol' days

5) CSM stands for Council of Stellar Management, an organisation that links a small group of players directly to the games developers CCP. They are privy to information that is under NDA until official announcement and they can give voices to players about concerns for certain things like broken design and whatnot

I like to ask the /current/ community about the game, sometimes when I look up Google it gives me article from 2009, 2011 and there's stuff that has changed with new expansions, etc also I wanted to make a first contact with the forums community which seems filled with all kind of people hehe

It's almost funny how I'm starting to regret posting on the forums. I'm glad I found a nice corp to play with on day 1 because you're really acting like a bunch of retards (except for those you gave real actual answers to my thread).

Good on you finding a corp on day 1. We're not ********. This, oddly enough, is GD and you made the mistake of creating another thread about the same topic as almost a dozen threads before it.

You could have asked your question in any one of those threads or just read them. We read things and you call US a bunch of retards. LOL

How come you arent in it?

Also, this isnt the game, this is a forum.

And this is GD, a terrible section of the forum.

There is a section for helping the new elsewhere.

Unfortunately GD is full of losers and shiptoasters like me :'(
