This is important issue.

Eve just proved that is not ready for current SOV war.
CCP have to buy more servers - or change capitals and supers , and the sentry drone assist mechanic.

You do realize that CCP's Tranquility server is currently the worlds largest and most powerful commercial supercomputer in existence right?

"if Skynet ever comes to pass, we'll know exactly who to blame." - Cassandra Khaw, PC Gamer, referring to Eve's Tranquility server in June 2013

Have you guys ever stop and wonder that the 'solution' to this issue is not just by slapping more processing power to the current one? CCP has already done what many have considered impossible to implement in terms of sustaining that kind of mass player activity on a single shard.

OP is doing the right thing. So are his friends. CCP has stated they have no immediate plans to change sov. This is obviously not a good decision. How do you effectively change a subscription funded companies bad decision? You do what the OP and friends are doing.

Fixing sov is not just about servers.

In a crowd control situation exit doors are a great idea. If there's a fire the more doors the better. The doors are the servers. However doors don't help if there's no exit signs, they don't help if there are only one or two narrow walkways.

I'm a crowd controller who works in nightclubs and casinos so pardon the examples but basically what I'm trying to say is CCP have a task similar to an evacuation in a packed crowded venue. The fix is going to be based on more than adding better more doors, it's going to need to direct the crowd to behave differently by implementing a whole raft of measures whilst dealing with its patrons increasingly filling its venue past safe levels.

Potentially an impossible task.

Tell me another game where 4000 dudes can play all together in one fight?

Tell me another game where 1000 dudes can all player together in one fight?

Hell tell me another game where 500 dudes can all fight at the same time?

The only other game I am aware of is Planetside 2.

So yeah, mass pvp is pretty much true, just because you are butt hurt doesn't make CCP lairs

you are both right AND wrong at the same time.

does the eve cluster need more power? no.

why? because it's not able to be used due to the current code running on it having limitations.

it is a powerfull hardware, but unfortunately, missused.

currently, code is single threaded, making it scale with raw CPU power, wich is tied to CP clock.

now, the CPU won't run FASTER.

what CCP need to do is mak code multithreaded AND able to be distributed dynamically among the nodes as needed.

easier said than done, i agree, but they NEED to do it.

they were supposed to introduce tidi to buy time for implementing this, yet 2 years later, tidi is reaching it's limit, yet NOTHING has been done.... this was said by many that they wouldn't move in that area, here we are.... but wait, we have awesome deployable like the ESS, so who cares.....

CCP are working on a couple of things which will increase the potential of the servers.

Brain in a Box
The Destiny Dispatcher.

The information is out there, if you go looking. No release date yet, as they're fairly deep magic.

Cynosyral inhibitor was designed as non repped. Watch video - you will see it was repairing very long time before die. Tell my this is working game mechanic?

Don't think it's going to improve performance on reinforced nodes.

I don't think nothing is being done, problem is we have no info about status of this work. I think CCP Veritas and whoever else deals with backend "legacy" code is doing his job but whenever question about is raised from community the answer is "not ready yet, NDA, HTFU", etc. I believe community would be quite happy with some periodical updates about what got done, even if effects on our side would be minimal or not existent. Right now we know "legacy code" trumps everything, but FFS how much of that legacy code is still there after years of alleged rewriting?

Taking a while, because it requires /all/ the underpinning for skill checks and so on updated.

Building character information is one of the heaviest things that happens, and it happens on every:
jump
refit
ship death
undock

Brain in a box offloads that, by having a dedicated server for it. Jump in, and no/little recalculation is needed, with the character info just being handed over in a bundle.

The destiny dispatcher will take the client updates and hands that off to a different thread to deliver. Sure, it's not as multithreaded as it could be, but it avoids some of the more serious issues with multi-threading (Race conditions are difficult to manage, when you have code that's very dependant of what people do.)

Could I please have your friends names as well? I'd like to put them next to yours in my contact folder that says "Quiiters" so I can keep a record of who actually quit or who was just ranting.
So many green dots....

We all can agree that something has to change regarding this, but stomping your foot like a spoiled brat while pointing fingers at CCP and refusing to come with something constructive yourself? Nah, get in my folder already.
