YES!!! Now I can finally toss my reading glasses*) aside when I have to read the fine print on screen that always looks to me like page 236 from some very obscure insurance policy.....Big smile

*)Yes, I'm ancient, I know.

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

The UI is a dinosaur and this modification doesn't bring it out of the dinosaur age.

But any positive change is welcome of course, as long as it doesn't hold up the timing of any real improvements.

Could I please make a suggestion here? I've been thinking of this for some time and I wonder if this might be the time to suggest it.

Us capsuleers are very familiar with building custom overviews to aid us in whatever we're doing - from PvP, PvE, Mining, POS maintenance, salvaging, you name it...

But with such diversity in the types of ships, and the purposes of those ships, I personally find myself constantly moving around windows on the UI depending on what I'm doing. For example, when mining, I don't need a large drone window, but when using a carrier, I need much more space to the drone window. When doing PvE, I'm generally only targeting a few enemies at a time, allowing me to keep chat windows at the top without issue. But when salvaging from missions/anoms, I need the entire width of the screen for my 10 targets, and.... well I've probably made my point.

So in addition to being able to save overview layouts for quick loading/reassigning, is there anyway that we could save custom UI confgurations? Something that would remember where my chat windows are, my cargo screen, my drone window - etc, and I could load new ones quickly whenever changing ships/strategies.

Just a thought - would be sweet, IMO.

Chalk me up as another user of rapidly deteriorating Mark I Eyeballs who would also really, really REALLY would like to see individual UI elements resizeable, simply out of need :/

Interesting and will probably solve quite a few screen-area headaches for some people who like to keep lots of windows open.

One big question I have about this is will this also apply to the overview and is anything being planned for the overview specifically in addition to this? Being able to scale the overview and (specifically) being able to move the ship effect icons (scram, web, neut, etc) around in their own column would be a really big plus.

Being able to scale various parts of the UI differently would be really cool but will definitely not be done for winter. Great idea though :)

Wee smaller UI \o/

I'm always happy when i can have more stuff on my screen simultaniously Big smile Also leaves more space for the actual rendered stuff

Although these changes are *nice*, instead of scaling the UI to fit 1 screen size of 1 monitor, why not create detachable windows for certain UI elements. For instance, say I have a 6 monitor setup and the bottom 3 have Eve spread across them, I would like the ability to detach the DScan and put up on the Top Left Monitor and enlarge, put the Map up on the Top Center Monitor, and phailpost on Eve Forums with the IGB up on the Top Right Monitor :)

How about the other side of this and going above 150%? Sometimes things look really really small in comparison especially when you are doing cool like playing EVE on a cinema screen or a sizable TV.

Why not do what most MMO's do, and that's give us a way to edit the current UI layout? When in EDIT mode, it allows you to resize certain UI elements (HUD, Font Size of certain windows, lock other windows in place, etc). Liquid Layouts.

I hope this is just a temporary fix, the entire UI needs to be rethought from the ground up. It's sort of like the new forums are nice & shiny, but you still publish devblogs in the old and busted forums.... Gives people the impression that EVE isn't a complete product.

Hey thats cool, but PLEASE don't **** it up. I'd prefer to keep my UI just the way it is right now.

Also, could you change the greek alphabet back to the old font? It was far superior in both appearance and legibility.

This is a fantastic quick win for us. Hopefully in the future the layout will be even more customizable and whatnot, but this, just this one thing, is a huge boon to people like me. Thank you so much. ♥

I like this.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

Thx for the scaling -
I want to agree with comments above: please let us customize or UI more individually.

Things that come in my mind which (currently) cant be changed are e.g.:

  • The "Damage notification line" where the log is shown - it is not moveable and not customizable
  • - would be nice to set e.g. what information are shown for how long etc... having five drones out and get shot by 3 opponent - that line is just useless.

  • The message "warp to xxx" shown above the ship UI
  • I can imagine a lost of places for that, which are not in the center of the screen.

  • System Information in the top left corner - which are behind any windows

  • Number of people in Channel - its indicated at the end of the Tab and always cut of if stacking of channels is applied.
  • e.g if only one of your [Player_channel_uses_a_horrible_long_name...] My preference would definitely be to show the number in front, and then cut the end so we see: [10 Player_channel_us...]
It would be even better if the number shown actually matches the people in that channel.. Blink

Well, that list can be continued - I see a lot of potential in the UI and think a general "layout mode" where one can drag around and scale UI-element groups/blocks would be highly appreciated by most players.
Scalability is definitely a start!

First of all: Good feature, I'm sure it'll be quite useful!

I assume you're aware of this and don't need me pointing it out, which is obviously not gonna stop me from pointing it out though: On the last screenshot in the blog* there are tabs. This isn't unusual for EVE. Interesting about that is that the only scalings in which the text of those actually fit within the tab size is 90% and 150%. For all other scalings the (already short) text is cut off on the right. Additionally on 90%, 125% and 150% the text seems to be slightly mispositioned vertically, closer to the bottom of the tabs than the top.

Looks good but some of the elements should be vector-ized so that they don't blur out with bi-linear scaling. The most notable was the circles used for module backgrounds and the shield/armor/hull readout.

(lol @ 2 posts above this)

Anyway, I would say it isn't worth starting UI suggestions here. There are surely other threads for that and I think even 20 ideas here aren't the tip of the iceberg. If there is going to be real discussion about UI improvement, in my opinion it needs to be along the lines of "How can we redesign the whole thing." And yeah, that discussion probably already exists on a page nearby.

Like the ship design competition, they should make a UI design competition I reckon. Give people a bit of room and after a while, and a few good entries, people will start to realise how insanely primitive Eve's UI is. I wonder how much the idea of global UI scaling would even come up in such a competition.

Won't the scaling of the UI result in a reduction of screen space and make window management even more difficult if you have it set to 150%? Wouldn't a redesign of the whole UI be a better long term solution?

is there any plans on allowing us to change the colours in the UI for colour blind people
