Huh? I think you need to read that thread again.. cheers!

Seems like Diagoras is trying to catch up.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

And you volunterr to write a UI that works no matter what font that is chosen?

This seems like a nice feature, can't wait for it to be on Tranquility. Big smile

Also, although I'm sure someone else has said it a while ago, it would be cool to scale different parts of the UI separately Cool

Edit: ok ccp Punkturis already said this is a good idea, which makes me very happy!

This feature is already on Tranquility! The dev blog was posted again by accident Blink

Of course not, and that is not what is requested. Read it again?

I said in that thread I'm sure those of us that actually don't like the new font can collaborate on finding a good alternative. All that is needed for us to tinker with it is to get the game to read the .otf files from a different location, a paradigm already established in a kind of "if a file is there, then read that instead of what was installed by the game" - as used to override the movies displayed in your captains quarters.

All games have QQ, but only Eve has Q.Q

Thanks for making the UI scaling. It made the game much more playable for me since I don't have the perfect vision and my monitor is quite high DPI. There is increasing number of displays which have far higher resolution per inch than what was common when EVE was first made. Back then you could also turn down resolution to get larger UI, but with LCD monitors it's best to stick to native resolution so the picture stays sharp. Thanks again, I am enjoying Eve much more now and it's more comfortable, faster and easier to play. :)

I'm appalled at this change because it strikes me that the default UI size (newly labeled 100%, oh wowzies how pretty!!1!!1one!!) is now larger than what it was before the change.
I'm happy to play Eve in 1920 resolution, compared to what I used to play it in years ago (1280), why can't I enjoy my larger resolution? Why do windows take half of my screen ?
This seriously pisses me off.

I understand this is a welcome change for people who have huge screens and bad eyes, but I have great near vision and I want my info to be in tiny icons and UI elements so i can fit a shitload of em on my friggin screen, thank you very much honcho boys.

Also... the 90% downscaling actually withdraws some info : some icon labels are cut down, look at the booster charges notably, they dont display their size anymore when scaled down.
Hence my doubt that CCP intends to implement lower scales than 90%.
THIS SUCKS.
Also, 90% doesnt look good. The rendering isnt perfect, notably of the font.

I want less fancy shiny in the icons, but smaller icons and stuff so I can fit more **** on my screen.
This game is ten years old and all I'm getting is 80 pixels-wide uselessly-high-rendering icons ?
That's what I bought a 1920 screen for ?
Nope.avi

I know the usual lifeforms will contest (if this thread has any activity) my claim that the UI got larger. I can't be arsed to dig up old screenshots. Deal with it.

No it's not. The font is bigger, because of we implemented a new font but the UI windows are the same size as they were before.

The font change also has nothing to do with scaling.

So no, the default UI size is the same as it was before.

I don't understand what you mean.. the windows are the same size yes.

Edit: the font change also has nothing to do with UI Scaling so his assumption about the UI Scaling causing the text being bigger is wrong.

Is the font bigger?
If yes, then to get your windows to show the same amount of information, you have to adjust your windows sizes bigger (whether it's automatic or the user is forced to adjust it themselves is irrelevant.) Hence the footprint of the UI (user interface, all the 2D elements, windows, etc) is bigger. Your users do not care if it's the font's fault or what, a bigger font means the 2D stuff takes up more space with less room for 3D stuff.

I actually changed computers/monitors around the time the new font went live, plus with the mandatory wiping of windows positions with crucible, it was hard to do a detailed size comparison, although even on my old monitor with 90% UI scaling, the client still feels more cramped.

The font can be bigger while using the same amount of space in the UI. When we had the old font there was empty space around the text, the new larger font has less empty space around it in the UI, hence the same amount of information take up the same amount of space.

That's my unprofessional analysis though.

I'm on a 1280x800 laptop, and I've set scaling to 90%, but it's actually too small. I find numbers hard to discern, and am considering scaling back to 100% even though then my small screen feels very crowded. And note this is a pixels issue, not a square centimeter issue.

I think I'd like an intermediate 95% scaling step, though. That would give a slight but very needed improvement to screen real estate (especially important if I resume flying missions, or if I try Incursions) while probably not giving the same number-reading-problems as 90% scaling does.

Mr. Grumpy you can type as many words as you like it's still not related to UI scaling as WeirdNoise stated in his post (and I was replying too).

Now go find someone else on the internet to argue with because I don't like arguing.

The specific problem is that when I have large stacks of stuff, like minerals, I can't actually see how much is in them without having to mouse over, at 90%. I can see the first digit easily but I can't know the order of magnitude for sure. For a trader (even a part-time trader) that's problematic. I think 95% might solve that. Otherwise you're going to have to do a font tweak, or some other interface tweak.

(Note that I don't need to know precisely how much is in a stack. I can mouse over it if I need that. But it does bother me a lot that I can't know the order of magnitude, like if it is 87 million or 8.7 million or 870k tritanium.)

For the same reason, you might want to implement 105% too. Not for my sake, it won't be useful for me in my current situation, but maybe some other players will benefit from it. Also note I'm not asking you to let players set scaling to 214.33% or other such silly precision, but the 90% to 100% step is slightly too coarsegrained, and it occurs to me that perhaps some other players find the 100% to 110% step to likewise be slightly too coarsegrained.

well 90% was created for people who were willing to sacrifice font readability so we can't do too much about it not being readable. Some people didn't even want to implement scaling less than 100% because it doesn't look perfect.. and it could be causing more issues than making people happy..
