Gonna post my support for the OP.

I would love to get my old hair style back again. If it was available, I'd take the shades off and be clean shaven again.

I agree that these services would be nice and doesn't contribute to the "pay to win" mentality. Looking at my account records I have bought seven PLEX for resculpts on this character in a little over one year. The last few were mainly to toggle freckles and change skin tone. Although I wouldn't change bloodlines this would also be a great ISK/PLEX sink

it would change what NPC corp you get kicked into, is there anything else?

as for the gender switching, CCP... that's not even progressive these days, and it would be more like catching up with the times. exclamation point, huge understatement.

Also, is it really such a big deal to change the a char's race? Relogging chars is something that is built into the fundamental part of the game client, but I believe that the race and the look of a char are just some values in a database. Since it is already possible to do a full re-sculpture, is it really that big of a deal?

Well yes.

I assume that the back end of EVE is based on a SQL database of some description, and from experience, altering such databases while code wise is relatively easy, are a pain to make sure they affect the correct person, lest you alter the wrong character and Joe Bloggs suddenly becomes a Brutor overnight.

I work in a firm of around 100 people and it took myself and my boss 3 weeks to code and test some variable based SQL so that we can display the fiscal values for the year in the manner that is needed; CCP is working with a database with nearly 500,000 player records in it. I highly doubt they will have the time to generate the coding and test it to make sure it can work correctly each and every time.

Well, if race changing will be hard to implement they can just give us Racial blending instead. There was already presented a prototype at one of the fanfests, so there is already some of the technology there.

I would pay for that as well.

about the default NPC corp thing, i think a bit of diversity would be nice

whenever i'm on my brutor character who is in an NPC corp, and i look at corp chat... the member list looks like the roster for hip hop night at the apollo

What I would like to see, and this wouldn't be game-breaking in any way (name changing would turn into a scammer exploit from hell and we all know it) would be to open up the wardrobes from different races to everyone.

After all, why can't an Amarrian wear mirrorshades? Why can I have the same fancy updo that my Amarrian counterpart does? Why can't I, as an Amarrian loyalist, wear their outfits? And why do I still get free Minmatar rookie ships when I'm about half a point away from KOS thoughout the Republic?

So here's what I'd like see:

Whenever you get your Standings above, say, 4.0 with a nation then you get to unlock their wardrobes and wear their fashion. Or do it incrementally, where at like 1.0 you get their jewelery & makeup. At 2.0 you get their hair-dos. At 3.0 you get their clothes. At 4.0 you get their tattoos.

If it ever drops below -2.0 then their wardrobe becomes locked out, unless it's your default wardrobe and/or you're already wearing it.

This also opens a fun new realm of pirate faction clothes for those who run missions for them.

But not everyone runs missions, I have better things to do with my time and would happily pay ISK for the other clothing.

This clothing issue is also a dicussion for my thread https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=293156&find=unread

I'm with Kate regarding the "cross faction" clothing.

In the current eve, standings doesn't really play a large role anymore. Even FW players only need a standing above 0 to join a faction, so why should people grind alot of missions just to wear some clothes?

Ok so make clothes into LP store items (FW already does this) and let people just sell them on the market. You can buy them off me. Smile

Indeed, I'm sure many of us chose race and bloodline purely for character appearance, only to have that change later.

I think, if easy, some of the consequences of the original choice should remain: the NPC corps that take you in are dependant on the school you graduated from, not directly your race, for instance.

As far as RP issues go, to an infomorph, such things as race and gender become increasingly irrelevant. Perhaps require a certain level of infomorph psychology to be able to change these things.

And as much as CCP keeps harping on about the capsuleers distancing themselves from the empires, it certainly makes sense to be able to choose whatever standard clothes, tattoos, piercings, and hairstyles we want, especially once we've been out of the academy for a while (after all, schools usually have dress codes...).
