Destroyer class squad booster

I recall reading a thread a while ago on the subject of making a second T2 destroyer with the ability to fit Warfare Links and I was very interested. The consensus, at the time of reading, seemed to be that the idea was good IF
-The ship were limited to no more than 2 links, maximum.

-By fitting the maximum of 2 links the remaining PG/CPU would be very tight encouraging proper risk/reward calculations.

-The ship would have to be on-grid for the fleet to receive the boosts.


I thought these were very reasonable and necessary criteria considering the subject matter, and while coming back from class today I thought about ways to improve the idea and maybe turn it into a promotable idea that is well balanced and thought out enough that we might see it in the future. Below is what I came up with to refine the points listed above.

* I welcome constructive criticism and discourage whining and general derpiness*

-The ship would only be able to act as a squad level booster, Command Ships are the choice for fleet-wide boosting.

-When combined with higher level boosts from warfare links there should be a stacking penalty of sorts that results in a net gain, albeit much less than the raw numbers of Squad boost + Command boost. **The penalty would only apply to multiple ships utilizing warfare links that are boosting the same squad, leadership boosts from a SC, WC, and FC do not incur this penalty.**

-The ship should be allowed to boost while cloaked. This may wind up resulting in a penalty to the boosts, but given that the hull is a destroyer I feel that it is a necessary option to provide. I would also not completely object to the fitting being such that 2 links would prevent a cloak from being fitted in some way. I understand that this idea will take much refinement to be workable.

I think the limit should be one warfare link the same as BC's otherwise this would make a very cheap booster hull...I'm all for another tech II dessie though. My algos is my favourite ship so far and a tech II variant would be great, perhaps a fleet escort variant that can provide remote target boosting to escorted BC's/BS's or something similar whilst providing anti-frig support

I'm not completely fixed on fitting 2 links, but I think that the ship would need to be flying almost naked to be able to fit 2 links making it a sort of glass cannon in regards to boosting.

What would you think if the new destroyer had an allowance also making it possible to fit a limited quantity of *fixed* Rapid Lights? I was basing that on your idea of an escort ship, it would be relatively thin-skinned and quite possibly the sacrificial lamb allowing the convoy to escape while destroying or forcing any tackle off-grid.

May I ask why you're not posting in that thread then? I do believe it was a recent thread so it can't be locked already. Having feedback spread into different threads is a lot worse than having a mega thread in one place with people talking about the same idea. Just sayin :D

If you're gonna post here thinking your idea is the greatest thing since bacon and that it will save EVE and possibly all humankind with it, you're gonna have a bad time.

Actually I was thinking more the other way as a heavy destroyer, it should have role bonus in itself for fleet assist role. This in my mind would be the warfare link to boost the fleet, plus anti-frig/dessie action bonus such as reduced mwd cost or improved tracking/range.

I like the rapid lights idea for escort duty, or possibly torpedo launchers for fast attack on cruisers. Weapon choice is usually governed more by faction though.
