I just noticed that no matter how high the ME Level of your Corporate Hangar Array Blueprint is, you always need the full batch of materials (100k Trit, 200 Nocx, etc.)

So what's the point of researching such a BP?

Materials marked as EXTRA do not have any waste, therefore they do not benefit from material research.

You can see what materials are marked as extra in a manufacturing quote, or by looking in the database.

All of the structure BPO have all their materials marked as extra. This is because extra materials are not recovered by reprocessing.

Back at the introduction of PI, CCP made the mistake of leaving NPC buy and sell orders for structures up while people reprocessed cheap structures and built more expensive structures to sell back to the NPC. CCP eventually smartened up (despite players warning them long ahead of time) and marked the materials as extra, as well as made all parts useless that were obtained from reprocessing structures.

Other items, like bombs, have some material marked as extra to prevent them from being used for mineral compression (extra materials cannot be recovered by reprocessing).

T2 BPO have some extra materials to both increase and reduce the cost. R.A.M. are extra, as are any required T1 parts, for example.

All materials in T3 hybrid component BPO are extra as well.

I just wondered why there are so many researched Structure BP's in the Contracts.
