There was a time when freighter ganking was done by battleships... that could be insured.

Then insurance was removed from ships that were killed by CONCORD.

Then Tier 3 Battlecruisers were introduced.

Net result: suicide ganking has a lower set up cost than before... but the loss is now total... meaning that it actually costs more to suicide gank than ever before.

If this is true, then why is ganking more popular than ever? If it was actually more expensive, wouldn't FEWER people be doing it, and wouldn't the 'floor' value of gankable targets have gone UP?

Since neither of those statements is true, I call 'bullshit' on that kind of reasoning.

And do you have any proof whatsoever that there is more ganking now than there used to be, back when you actually MADE money getting killed by concord? (Other than as a result of the increased playerbase I mean.)

And if people didn't haul 20b freighters around so much, there would be a lot less ganking.

This issue seems like its just a symptom of another issue. High-sec ganking doesn't come with any low term consequences. You just pony up a portion of your booty and your sec status is clean as can be, so you can just do it again with your 10 multiboxed accounts.

Big problem I see is the risk vs reward balance with this kind of ganking. Where is the real risk? I rarely hear about "ganks going south". Its a gank, a kill against a far weaker opponent because you know you can make money. There should be lasting consequences and it shouldn't ever be easy to circumvent these consequences. Making an initial gank somewhat easy, but basically making it very hard to do again would be a way to go. I'm not sure i'm a fan of the whole sec status tags, seems like a mechanic that is all about if you have enough money, you can do whatever you want in EvE without real consequences, and that doesn't seem balanced considering smaller entities shouldn't be overshadowed completely by larger ones. Same thinking have given us nullsec as it stands now, a couple giant coalitions because no small entity can touch them.

These aren't balanced game mechanics son.

You really think someone would do that? Just log into EvE and tell lies?
