Old/new player question about afk log off

So I have two accounts and I play them simultaneously on occasion on two screens. And this afk timer thing pops up in the upper left hand corner and logs a charter off if not “active” after a certain time limit. For the record I have hit this the most often while my second character is trying to salvage a big encounter. Firing resets it but turning the ship does not. So my questions are as follows:

Is there a way to adjust the setting on this to make it longer/shorter/turned off?

How about adding actions that get it to reset?

What are the actions that get it to reset?

I believe it turns off docked in a star base?

Can I set it so its still active when docked?

For the record I did search the forums and the wiki for an answer but I didn’t use the right key word search.

I have no idea what you mean, a there is no AFK mechanism as far as I know.

I have 5 accounts, and have not experienced this.

EDIT: Firing weapons causes a "weapons flag". It has nothing to do with being AFK, nor do any of the other crimewatch flags.

Those flags which pop up on the upper lefthand side of your screen are aggression flags. Nothing to do with being AFK or with having a character logged off automatically (that never happens as far as I'm aware).

Have a read of the crimewatch devblog the section "Introducing some new Flags" explains the flags.

The text of the timers does mention logging off, but the effect of the timers is only that they will force your spaceship to remain in space after you have logged off. The timer does not log you out, but in fact achieves the opposite: you can no longer escape a fight or trap by simply logging out since your ship will remain in space for 15 minutes allowing the bad guys time to hunt you down and blow you up even though you turned off your computer and went to the pub for a beer.

You are talking about 2 timers:

NPC log off timer
Player log off timer.

Neither of them are because you are AFK and neither of them will log you off when they expire.

What are they:

They appear when you get aggression by NPC (in case of NPC log off timer) or player (Player log off timer).
If you close the client / log off while the timer is active, your ship will stay in space until the timer runs out and only then will make the emergency warp and disappear.

CCP added these 2 timers because of the abuse of the log off mechanics by certain people. People used to be able to log off in the middle of a fight to safe their ship because it warped away and disappeared. This isn't possible anymore because of these 2 timers.

Now to answer the questions:

1. No. There is no way to make these timers shorter.

2. Everytime a NPC or Player shoots you, the timer gets reset. So it is possible for a player in a noobship (no ammo required on civilian guns) to keep the enemy on grid indefinately (well, until server downtime) even after that person closed their client.

3. These timers count down in real time. So by staying docked, you can let them expire. But the same can be done by just sitting in a safe spot or inside a POS forcefield.

4. No. Because they are triggered on NPC / Player agression, you can't get them while docked. (unless, you found a way to invite someone in your Captain's Quarters and he keeps punching your avatar in the face every 30 seconds).

Why don't you hover over that timer with your mouse a little? It will explain a lot! Big smile It's a timer that simply flags you for being active, it says 'this dude just shot at an NPC so if he wants to log off, he has to wait a little'. This mechanic is intended to prevent people from logging off to save their ship when under fire. During normal play you can pretty much ignore it.

If you try to log off safely it will give you the message that you must wait out this flag. If you just quit with the timer still on you, your ship doesn't get removed from space immediately, but after this and other timers have passed. If you log off in a station you can ignore it entirely, these flags mainly exist to prevent logging off in space as a method of escape.

Best way to test this is train a cov-ops with cloaky and go sit in null with cloaky going and afk for 23hrs.
Yeah... no afk timer, just aggression timers.
