I was just wondering what the community thinks the best capacitor module is? In terms of greatest recharge rate vs the negative part ( like how one would lower my shields ). I'm thinking I want to go for the ones that lower my shields and increase recharge rate since I'm an armor boat. Searching for capacitor in the market shows A LOT of options so getting some help to narrow it down would be great.

Cap Power Relay. You can almost always spare a low slot for one of these (I'm assuming we're discussing PVE fits here - if this is for a PVP ship, you've made a major mistake looking for cap instead of tank or DPS).

Capacitor Recharger : improves capacitor recharge, no drawbacks, but uses a valuable mid-slot.

Capacitor Power Relay : improves capacitor recharge more than the Recharger does, but reduces Shield Boost Amount (great if you're not using a shield booster, terrible if you are), uses a low-slot.

Capacitor Booster : uses charges to inject chunks of energy at once. Great for PvP as it uses only 1 slot, awesome while you're under Cap pressure (NOS/Neut) as you can give yourself a quick shot of power, activate modules and continue the fight before you're sucked dry again.

Capacitor Flux Coil : Improves Recharge, but reduces total Capacitor Capacity. Overall a terrible module, wouldn't use it.

Capacitor Battery : Powergrid hungry, CPU hungry, needs a mid-slot. Increases total Capacitor (and as a result improves recharge rate, as the time to fill up doesn't change). Generally not very good for same sized modules, but if you can cram an oversized one on it can have a dramatic improvement to your stability (a Large Capacitor Battery II on a Cruiser is quite amazing, but not many have the fittings to pull it off).

Power Diagnostic System : Improves Capacitor Recharge, Capacitor Capacity, Shield Recharge, Shield Capacity and Power Grid with no drawbacks. Downside, the individual increases are quite small compared to some of the others mentioned here. It is however a great module if you need a little bit more of one of the mentioned stats, it does use a low-slot.

Capacitor Control Circuit : Rig that improves recharge rate, has no drawbacks, other than using up valuable Rig-slots.

Cap control circuit rig, nice to have at least one. You are using armor so CPR's are good down in lows. If you run a couple in a shield tank, you need to compensate drawback with a shield boost amplifier. 3rd pick, cap recharger, imo but only for pve. Hard to fit though, mid slot and all, but seems easier if you run drones to free up painting or web slotting though.

This sums it up nicely, however just wanted to mention that when using an active shield tank fit, the Capacitor Flux Coil gives more cap than a Power Diagnostic and thus is the 'best' cap recharge item that you can stick in a lowslot.

However on a more relevant note, cap recharge is overrated, there are few situations where you need to be cap-stable, a cap booster will allow you to get the most out of your gank which will earn you more isk for your time.

Shield Tanks generally don't need to be stable, especially if you're running an Ancillary booster. Your boost per cycle is generally much higher than with an armour tank so you can very easily afford to pulse the booster, rather than run it continually like you would most armour tanks. This generally makes shield tanks better at Gank, while still maintaining a very decent tank.Big smile

In most cases the best conceivable capacitor module installs between the chair and keyboard, for most of the rest a booster is the way to go.

However, for those who have the option it is well worth considering Energy Transfer Arrays - a spare highslot on two ships allowing them to generate by passing cap between them has numerous advantages - provided you can make use of them.
