You know I wonder.

With CCP taking feedback from their playerbase so seriously: Do you think Hilmar will see the OPs topic title while browsing through GD and immidiately call for a company excursion to the local library?

BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty.

It all looks pretty true to me, can you clarify what you see as "unfair and untrue"?

Agreed, everything in there looked pretty true and factual to me. Something can only be libelous if it's false.

No. Even entirely true statements can be libelous if they are intended to harm the reputation of somebody for no other reason but to cause harm. The defenses to slander / libel (now usually referred to as defamation) is substantial truth and in the public interest or good.

If you know your married boss is rooting his secretary and you post it all over the internet, even if he is rooting his secretary, if you broadcast that for the express purpose of causing him harm that could be considered defamation.

Its libel. Opinions and views are fine but they usually sound like "I think this" or "I think that". Libel is a written statement of fact which damages a reputation. Its usually only defensible if the statement is true or at least mostly true.

Obviously the 'review' contains quite a lot of exaggeration and some outright lies so yeah not exactly lawful to do that, or at least does open the writer up to being sued for damages / apology.

That review is easily 134%, maybe even 172% true.

Most goons are playing Eve from their prison cells with the sole purpose of corrupting the youth.

Since we're throwing around legal-speak around here, the burden of proof for libel is very high. You'd have to prove that this individual was out to hurt CCP as opposed to making an attempt at warning off parents and expressing personal frustration.

Have a look here to see what I mean: http://www.reputationhawk.com/onlinedefamation.html

Much of the difficulty that surrounds successfully winning an online defamation case is brought about because the plaintiff must first prove who the publisher or writer of the statement is and, secondly, that the statement is false and written with the intention of causing damage.

OP needs to chillax. Is chillax still a cool word? Ah hell, given how the OP is concerned with things from five years ago, I'm pretty sure that chillax will be fresh in his mind.

After consideration, I think that review is a stealthy bit of viral marketing from CCP.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

pretty much this

I don't know that I would agree that "CCP are jerks...", "CCP intentionally exploits a loophole...", or "CCP communicates and promotes a sexual, perverted, profane...".

The rest seems fairly factual and within my own experience, but not that I think any of it is bad. However it does take maturity to be able to understand the things that occur in game and this review doesn't say not to play Eve, it just warns parents not to let their <18 y/o children play it. Even though it's an old review, I don't disagree with what it says except for the attacks on CCP.

Well this is kinda true, but they're confusing "Game Manager" with the CSM.

Your child will "hear" people drunk.
CCP the maker of eve will broadcast fanfest events through the ingame voice system. Your child will hear inappropriate things during their presentations.
While flying through space systems your child will see and be overwhelmed with content named with inappropriate names. I once saw someone had their ships out and they were all named a modified version of penis.

See above and also, I think Freud would have to say something about half the ships in this game. Welcome to Flying Dildos Online. What else is new?

The review isn't against UK law.

It's a review of a game, and the UK has free speech (with certain limitations). If the reviewer had written "everyone at CCP are murderers" (or similar) then it could be considered libel and CCP would at least have grounds to have the review removed, but it doesn't.

Who trusts a review posted on Amazon? That site has countless positive reviews about how amazing Keurig machines are at making coffee! I got one for Christmas last year and it's so good at brewing coffee that I switched to drinking tea. Online reviews are as useful for judging a product as GD is for learning how to play EvE.
