Trapped In The Tutorial!

Going through the tutorial, all was well until I got to the part where I was supposed to shoot up a couple ships. Somehow I made a wrong turn and now not only can I not find the bad guys but apparently I'm trapped in the tutorial. The new plan was to dump the tut then take my lumps in the game, figure it out from there, but the only agent that will talk to me is the "training agent", and all she wants to hear is how bad I stomped the enemy ships.
So now all I can do is hang out wherever it is I am, unsure if I'm even in the right place, and admire the cosmos. Guess I could just go play tourist, blast around the Universe just to see what I can see, but that's not really the "Plan". I think somebody tried to open a conversation with me in the chat window but I'm not real sure how all that works, not yet, anyways.
My question is two parts: Can I reset the tut, start over? I went to the settings window, hit everything that looked relevant, but no go. Failing that, is there a way to simply tell the tut to go away, set me free, to go and do whatever it is I can do?
If all else fails then, with some regret, I'll let the trial subscription expire, uninstall the client and go do something else.
But I really want to do this, I looked around at all the other space games/sims/strategies, etc and this looks the coolest.
(Full Disclosure: The last space game I played was Dune2, and that's been a while.)

When in space during an active mission there should be a drop down box in the upper left. You can set your destination from there (if you are in a different star system) or warp to the location directly (if you are in the same system). You may have to active an acceleration gate when you reach your location. Shoot me and in-game convo if you can't get it sorted.

First of all, welcome to Eve and gratz for asking instead of just saying to hell with it and purging Eve Online from your computer.

CCP is new player friendly and as such if you have problems in-game with your character being stuck in an active mission, you can submit a Support Ticket. Open Eve Help (F12 key) - click the 'Create New Support Ticket' button and in Group / Category select 'Agent Mission In Progress' and 'Stuck Character'. Include a brief concise description of the problem and within 5 to 15 minutes of submitting the ticket a GM (Game Master) from CCP will be ready to answer your questions and or reset the mission.

Also while in game you have an active chat window open to your corporation (NPC starter corp) which should have some older players available to help answer your questions.

Wish I could offer you some more info. Don't give up and good luck to you.

Thanks for the response and advice. Since my last post I've gone off joyriding, got myself killed (or ship destroyed and me encapsuled, kind of cool), warped back to that place I can't spell off the top of my head, got another ship (apparently a loaner), canceled the former mission (OK, got that figured), asked for and received another, retrieved my new ship then accomplished the new mission and all that has apparently got me even with the tut. So I'm back on track. Lesson learned: There is a high degree of uncertain ambiguity on the part of an agent, as in "go to that space and get this", and as long as you stay in sequence everythings OK, but no tourista sidetrips, it screws the pooch.
Thanks again for all the help; nice to know I'm not completely alone out here, or there, or wherever.

Just make sure you take plenty of side trips as soon as the tutorials are done. Eve is all about side trips Big smile

Check the Day 0 Advice for New Players thread: alongside the video walkthroughs of the tutorial missions you'll find other advice useful for new players.

This can't be repeated enough times. Eve has so much to offer beyond the grind and bore, and the tyranny of ISK addiction.

Be the entrepreneur, the diplomat, the leader, the enforcer, or the criminal. Or other stuff.

On topic:

To reset the tutorial, you should file a "stuck" support ticket here: http://community.eveonline.com/support/support-tickets/. A GM can manually reset it for you.

To completely skip the tutorial, you can hit Esc to bring up the menu, then uncheck "Show Tutorial" in the center top of the General tab. There is absolutely no need to finish the tutorial, though it does serve as a decent introduction to basic mechanics/controls.

If you have questions or need further help, feel free to contact me in game. It looks like you play in the US Timezone, so I should be around. Even if I'm not, I'm a huge nerd so if you send me an Eve Mail (in-game or here via Eve Gate) I will receive it very soon.

Gratz on getting back on track.

I'd like to add that in my opinion the Tutorial and Career Agents (aka New Player Experience) is definitely worth the time for a new player to complete. Basically it gives new players a very good jump-start into the game. Not only does it provide basic knowledge with some experience, it also provides ships, skillbooks, equipment, isk, standings, etc.

As for doing missions or mining, etc., there's nothing wrong with that, especially if it's what you wanna do in this game. What one person finds boring another person finds enjoyable.

The best thing about this game is the fact that you can always try out a new career path any time you want. You can also do different career paths at the same time, IE, run Factional Warfare missions and engage in PvP ship fights while selling items on the Market which you manufactured with resources gained from Planetary Interaction.

There's a very long list of different activities available to do in this game. Of course some of them will require specialized skills and time invested to pursue. The main thing to remember is the choice is yours.

Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny.

Good luck to you and in closing I'd like to add :

Be careful of your destiny, for your destiny is within Eve.
