blame low res textures on big ships. If you fly smaller ship near bigger ship, your smaller ship is crisp, but larger ship is blurry. Just look at the windows of battleships or titans. One window on titan is large and blurry (and awfully low res). windows on large ships are even bigger than cruiser class ships.

textures on large sips are not in scale to smaller ships... thats the reason...

here is why (sorry for my poor skills in MS paint)

The lack of texture detail in other ships has all to do with how close you put the camera to them and nothing regarding the issue, which is the field of view and the effects it has on perspective. A different spot in the game where you can see how your brain fools you is the CQ. On the path from the hangar to the inside, while having the camera point at your ship.

Perspective is something everybody observes, but many lack.

I fly a machariel, one of the biggest looking bs's around, but when im alone or in a fleet of all battleships & up, I feel the size of a cruiser, and I constantly count the floors to my ships when I fly them to feel the massive ship I am in control of, but its really hard, so I often watch size comparison videos on youtube, or zoom in all the way xD.

Who feels the same, and how do you cope, and how could this be fixed? O_o

Zoom in as close as you can. Any better?

The visual appearance of the ships in this game keep alot of people from realiseing just how unbelieveably MASSIVE these things are. To put it in perspective, I built a few 1:1 scale ships in minecraft. Even the smallest friggets dwarf most of my buildings. The larges ship Iv managed to build is the Cormant, a destroyer, and its almost 200 blocks long. A titan is larger than my entire minecraft map at over 18k blocks long. So yea, they are big.

Just fly around zoomed in all the way. Then your ship will always look "really big."

Hint: you can always make your ship look small by zooming out, because space is bigger than your ship.

It's a result of a lack of visual clues that you're looking at a large object.

There's no:

- Depth effect and parallax, there's no objects in front of it (of a known size) to create visual comparison. This is why the moon looks huge when it's low in the sky, your brain knows its a long way away by parallax, and that it needs to be huge to appear at this distance, ergo it makes it feel larger to you. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_illusion

- No atmosphere. This is actually a 'problem' in real life as well, objects in space that are large and distant don't have the same level of atmospheric dispersal covering them, so they don't look far away to our way of perceiving things. This video lets you see what would happen if EvE ships were in the sky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPeb547pis0 The illusion of size, despite using identical graphical assets, is very stark.

- The camera fit to a central point makes the first issue above more prevalent (sometimes a ship will pass you and look suitably large because it accidentally achieves the properties needed to appear massive).

There's no way to fix any of these issues, really.

Try Freespace or Freespace 2 where capital ships really do look like capital ships

That video is a great way to get an idea but still not 100% accurate, since that island is only a few KM long and the titans are suppost to be about 15-18 km long. So they are still too small.

Still that's a machariel. Imagine a rokh next to an apoc.

No, I just think the easiest way to spot a self important asshead is because he comes up on grid as Machariel

When I started eve I was recruited by the legion of idiots by goshee, and he all made us go the minmatar path, and I stuck with it, and if I wanted to switch the vindi/mare(also low res) I would have to train t2 gun systems on whichever I chose. Just because I fit the role of an incursion sniper I'm an asshead? kk ;):

This has allways been the main thing that bugged me with Eve. The game gives a very poor perception of size.
There are many resons to this and some of them have been mentioned, but what bugs me the most is the movement. Especially the bumping and turning. I understand that it probably is a comprimise between real movement and what is actually bearable game-play-wise. But battleships feels like about the size of cars when bumping and turning in a fleet.
